Editorial Review for Brown Palace Hotel & Spa – by Gayot.com

The Scene
Opened in 1892, this wedge-shaped sandstone and granite building has hosted princes and presidents, Hollywood actors and rock stars. It has been completely modernized over the years, but always with an eye to preserving its history.

The Details
Each of the 241 rooms has thick terry robes and down comforters. Other amenities include complimentary high-speed Internet access, 24-hour room service, twice-daily maid service, a full-time concierge and a well-equipped fitness center. The art-deco staterooms on the eighth and ninth floors are a little more costly, but a lot bigger than the hotel's other doubles. Several of the 25 suites, all with fireplaces, are named after their famous occupants, such as President Eisenhower and the Beatles. Every afternoon, English tea is served in the atrium lobby. Sundays, both out-of-towners and locals enjoy the Dom Perignon Sunday brunch.

Great historic hotel and rooms. However, not the quietest place. If you like dogs, dog hair in the room, a dog on your bedspread prior to your stay, and dog lying on the chair prior to your stay, and oh yes, a barking dog once in awhile, this is your place. I like a clean room free of pets. I don't want to even think about some dogs butt on my bedspread or chair, uhh. The management should put the pets and owners on one floor and let them enjoy themselves. Oh did I add, barking dogs on ocassion. Great location to downtown but I'm not going back (unless I bring a dog along).

Pros: location, historic hotel

Cons: dogs, dog hair, dogs barking
