Thirty-five miles west of Boulder, this mountain town offers numerous attractions and events. The downtown area features soda fountains, saltwater taffy shops, western-wear boutiques and art galleries. History and architecture buffs visit the elegant Stanley Hotel, built in 1909 (also the spooky inspiration for Stephen King's "The Shining"). Each Fourth of July, the town hosts a huge fireworks display. Other events include the Scottish/Irish Highlander Festival, Rooftop Rodeo and Estes Park Music Festival.
