Denver >Bars & Clubs > Gabor's
What a waste of a great space. I live one block away from this establishment, and when I moved in I was excited to see a "dive-bar" in the neighborhood. However, my first trip to Gabors, the smell of sour beer and puke was to much for me to handle. I drank a beer and left. I have to point out here that the bartender was pleasant, not friendly, but pleasant and honest about the situation. She said the smell is always there, though usually not as pungent. I returned a few times and was amazed at how detached an unfriendly the staff can be. My fourth and final venture into this den of muck, the sloth, yes sloth is the only way to describe this creature, informed me that if I couldn't tip her more than .50cents a beer (on a $2 beer) I could get the f**k out and never come back. She spent more time outside getting high than she did behind the bar. I had been in a few nights before, drinking scotch and the bartender was pleasant and servicable. I had a $30 tab and I tipped her $10. As a former bar owner, and long time bar manager I know and understand the value of good customer service. This bar has the perfect location and very resonable prices. Until they do something about the smell, and the horrible attitudes of the staff, I will just continue to walk by I think, "what a waste of space".
Gabors is Great. the lighting is dark... the booths are a little shaky... but this place is clean (and I'm really uptight about cleanliness), and it's a great neighborhood hangout! I could rave about the cheap drink prices, and I could rant about the slow (albeit friendly) service - but what I really want to do is go on and on about how crazy amazing their cheesesteaks are! yum! they are consistently delicious - if you are a fan of cheesesteaks at all, you NEED to try theirs. trust me.
First and last time I'll go there. I was thoroughly dissatisfied with this bar. I went here about a month ago and was appalled by the service of the bartender and attitude of the doorman or whoever he was. I understand you're allowed to smoke in certain bars in Denver, but I don't think that this rule should apply to the service staff as well; the bartender was smoking behind the bar in between mixing drinks for people. I don't know about you, but I would prefer not to have a hint of cigarette smoke with my vodka tonic.. Very unappealing and unsanitary. Between the bad attitudes, service and sanitation I wouldn't go to this place..
Great happy hour!!! Great late night eats!!!. This place is awesome!!! A neighborhood bar with great drink specials and good food. Love the selection on the jukebox. Good beer on tap. The staff is friendly, the service is great, and the prices are reasonable.
This joint may be outside of LoDo, but it still has a hip-without-being-too-trendy feel..
If ever a bar could be called "sultry," Gabor's is it, boasting a deep red interior with high-backed booths perfect for creating a hint of intimacy. The clientele is hip without being trendy, the pool tables have a terrible lean and the walls have more than enough black and white photos on them. The ladies behind the bar are quick and courteous, as long as you stay on their good side.
Fun.. This is a good place for dates. The bartenders are competent, but that's about it. It's comfortable and the jukebox is good. But DO NOT sit near the bathroom. There lives a foul odor in that vicinity that never goes away...
