Editorial Review for Hapa Sushi – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
With big windows, black accents, wood floors and great lighting, Hapa has a high-tech feel. Snag a seat at the sushi bar and watch the chefs create works of art that taste as good as they look. The bar scene in the rear rocks with a nightly gathering of sushi fans. Sushi rolls range from the Caterpillar to spicy shrimp rolls and tempura-fried scallops. Grilled chicken on red miso-sesame-bok choy and Hijiki rice is flavorful.

I love Hapa! It isn't traditional sushi but that's what's so great about it. It is definitely a different style; they use molasses as a sushi topping (in small enough doses- it is so delicious). The ambiance is really cool. Plus, they stay open late. My favorite roll, hands down, is the asparagus caterpillar roll. I first started going to Hapa on the Hill in Boulder, and then the one on Pearl St. I was so happy when they brought Hapa to Cherry Creek. The restaurant is usually noisy and jammed packed, but if you're looking for a hip restaurant, this is the place to go in Cherry Creek for sushi. (Sushi Tazu's sushi keeps disappointing me- not doing that again) I like Sushi Den for traditional sushi, but Hapa has rolls that are unique and make my roommates and I have cravings to go back. Worth a try- but beware, you might get hooked. The wait staff could use a little improvement. They sometimes forget orders and bring out random rolls that you didn't order- which get comped (you have to say something), you eat the food you didn't order (still delicious) and then they bring out what you really ordered... sort of a bargain, really)
Pros: Best steak, open late, cool atmosphere, really really tasy sushi
Cons: wait staff gets food out quickly... but usually the wrong one.

Yeah the servers here are always in bad moods. I think that the rolls are also badly rolled because of the constant turnover on the chefs as well. The hand rolls are decent, and the sashimi is normally ok. Be careful of the tuna- it's either good or bad. This place does have a great happy hour. The hot rolls everyone gets excited about are made with nasty mayonnaise and probably have a couple thousand calories, so if you're into that, you got it. Overall, not impressed, but do frequent because of happy hour specials. Not worth the full price.
Pros: hapy hour, sashimi/nigiri
Cons: poor service, gotta know what to avoid
