Das Meyer is fantastic! My husband and I went in for numerous cake tasting when we were trying to decide on a cake for our wedding. Every time we went in they were so friendly, warm and welcoming. We loved the mom/pop feel of the location and the friendly atmosphere. Our wedding cake was even better than the tastings (and the tastings were incredible)! Our wedding guests are still talking about the fabulous cake!!! We had cherry chantily, white godiva and bailey's chocoalate >>> YUMMMMM! We can't wait to order another cake from them!!!!
Disappointed for a second time! – I gave Das Meyer a second try because so many people told me what wonderful cakes they have ; I was disappointed for a second time. The first time was my son
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE!!! – I have to say that I had to try this place after I had a piece of cake from a co-worker's party. I also read a wonderful review from a great Aspen magazine. My family has ordered many birthday cakes and pastries from them. No, they are not known for their customer service -- but who cares! They make great tasting cakes. I'm a total foodie so it takes a lot for me to say something tastes good and they have it down! I've happened to be there during a wedding tasting and it is a bit crowded. You won't get that one-on-one time you may be looking for. That's why I say their customer service isn't the best. I would highly recommend the almond filling cakes. They really are the best. Unfortunately they usually aren't available for the tastings, but you won't be disappointed.
So good the 1st time, we had to come back. – Nothing but thumbs up for this family owned business in Arvada. As far as the comments from M. Hansen & S. Bento, "are you sure that you and I were in the same place"?
The staff was attentive, but not pushy., the "tasting" was such a nice surprise, and the quality of the finished product far surpassed any others.
Our first trip to this fine establishment was bacjk in June of '09 for one of our daughters wedding. The cake was such a huge hit, that we don't have to ask ourselves where we were going to get the wedding cake for our other daughter for her upcoming wedding this fall, and we have already scheduled it.
Das Meyer Fine Pastry Chalet-or course.
Simply the Best...I am fairly new to the Arvada area and had been looking for a close bakery ...I can not express how wonderful and delicious every item I have recieved from the bakery has been...
When it was time to make a decision for where to go for my wedding cake there was no hesitation that Das Meyer was going to be the place. As to M.Hansen...I also attended a cake tasting at Das Meyers and had nothing but the finest services...The staff was very attentive and proficient in making sure I was able to look at different designs and shapes for my wedding cake...In addition when I brought in my wedding invitation and asked for the same design to be on my cake the cake decorator (I believe his name is Zach) came to my table and showed me what the design would look like once on my cake-if you ask me that is talent to just look at the invitation and then take icing and produce a duplicate
As to the large amount of people in the Bakery...That was a testment to how wonderful the buisness must be...
I love Das Meyer and its staff and look forward to using them for many years to come...
The BEST I have ever had – I have been going to das meyer for over 15 years. I have NEVER had bad customer service from any one there. From all the birthday cakes to wedding cakes to items for just for breakfast each one has been great. In reading the review there is few thing that I would like to bring up.
To M.Hasen:it is tasting not sampling every cake that could possable be made. Just because you see some thing on TLC it does not make it a every day item, and to bring race into a review of business you better be able to back that claim up.
To Sara Bento:I did not know that a haunted house had any thing to do with running a bakery.
To Das Meyer: See you this Saturday for some breakfast. Thanks for every thing you guy do! Including your GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE.
Very Poor Customer Service – I was referred to Das Meyer from my future sister in law, as she has purchased a wedding cake there before. I am getting married in July of this year and was in need of a bakery to provide our cake. My future husband and I had already determined that we wanted almond cake, but weren't sure on the filling or design. I saw on the website that Das Meyer had an open tasting every Saturday. Because my fiance works on Saturdays, he was unable to attend, but our 8 year old daughter is very involved in the wedding planning and wanted to go with me.
I arrived to discover that it was an absolute zoo at this tasting. There was a line out the door, there was no seating, and there was no organization whatsoever. Once we made it inside of the building, I noticed that there were consultants sitting with parties at tables...so I assumed that by the time made it through the line and was able to be seated, I would have someone assist me. I made it to the cake tasting part, but this was my firsdt tasting and I wasn't sure of the process. I asked the gentleman serving how it worked and he told me to choose up to 6 flavors from the list to try. I told him we were interested in Almond cake and he told me they don't do almond. I asked about Almond Poppyseed or even Cherry Almond and his response was "NO ALMOND, PERIOD." To my dismay, I decided to sample 4 of the choices including chocolate, triple white, lemon poppyseed and strawberry and champagne. My daughter suggested to me to sample the Cookies and Cream cake and I told her that I wasn't interested in it. At that point the man serving cake became indignant and defensive and said, "And WHY NOT?" I explained to him that it was my wedding and I wasn't interested in a cookies and cream cake at my wedding.
I then took my child and my cake to find a place to sit, but that was an impossibility. There was a small table that had no chairs at it and we went and stood next to it. We began tasting the cake and a consultant stopped by to see if we had been helped. I told her no and she grabbed a pricing sheet for me. She told me that a cake of our size (based on the number of guests I told her) would be X amount and that the delivery would be another $90. She then left and I never heard from her or anyone who worked there again. There were brides who brought 6+ guests with them, taking much of the space provided...there were brides there with 3 different plates of cake in front of them...who had been there for a LONG time. SOME people there were receiving excellent customer service, as I saw it first hand. There was a man in gym shorts and a chef coat (who I assume to be the owner) who was wandering about and addressing customers' questions.
As I thought about what was happening, I realized that I was being treated differently because my child is of a different ethnic background than I am. It hit me like a ton of bricks and I rapidly made my way to the door.
I have already shared my experiences here with my friends who are planning their weddings, and I will not patronize Das Meyer bakery. It is very unfortunate that they are confident enough in their book of business that they feel they can hand select who gets good treatment. Shame on you Das Meyers.
I went to another tasting the next day, where they are not afraid to make almond cake, nor were they afraid to be kind to a family that looks different than their own.
Field of Corpses by das meyer – Do NOT go to the field of Corpses unless you want to be yelled at by security men that have a weekend dream of being a cop! I’m a mom in my 40’s and I went to take my 10 year old, 15 year old and their friends here. First of all it was 60 dollars for the four of us--CASH only. I only had my credit card so I let the two older boys wait while I drove home and got my checkbook went to the grocery story and got cash for them. I returned and just when we walked up the girl laughed and said she was just notified they closed the line. I explained to her that my kids had been waiting an hour and she put her hands over her faced and giggled and said it was ‘to bad’. On the way out there is a big line up of want to be policemen shining lights in the cars. I simply told one man our situation how my kids had waited for me to go get the 60 dollars cash and wanted to see the spook show and we were disappointed. He got real smart shouting at me that I wasn’t listening to him. I simply said a bit smug “Have a lovely weekend” He got all muscle with me shouting slow down…. (I was going 6 miles an hour.) The most unpleasant experience I have been involved in!
Watch out this place is looking for trouble they have the police there and they and are very provocative. Stay away unless you like to pay big bucks to be treated like trash! Do not pay the 60 dollars CASH to be harassed. They are looking for trouble, do not let yourself or your children be targeted.
Keep your kids away or it may cost you much more than the overpriced entrance fee! I am not a complainer and have never taken the time to write any type of complaint but I am extremely upset by my experience there!
Incredible Service – When I announced my engagement to my mother, she told me that I had to go to Das Meyer and at least do a tasting for the cakes. I first went to a number of other locations and left it as my final destination. I didn't walk in expecting much, since most cakes we had tried were either too sweet or bland. I was floored by not only how tasty the cakes were, but how many options there were, too.
I then went online to look at Das Meyer's reviews, and was a little concerned at first over a few negative reviews that I saw, but my mother assured me that they were the bakery to go with. I'm so glad that I did!
Not only have we received the best-tasting cakes out there for the wedding (there was hardly anything left at the end of it!), but we experienced absolutely wonderful customer service!
As for the negative comments, most seem to come from people who forget that Das Meyer is a family-owned, mom-and-pop environment. They simply can't afford to jump through hoop after hoop just because someone bought something that they didn't like or they didn't properly articulate their needs. Consider of the amount of money it must cost them to have the tastings every single Saturday alone! They are, by far, the kindest and most thoughtful folks and they will work with you to make sure that your wedding cake(s) are unforgettable!
Kudos to Rachel (our wonderful sales associate), Dennis (our fabulous baker), and Zach (our cake decorator--awesome job)! I highly recommend them, and we will be using them for every significant event in the future!
A Thrill to Find – Das Meyer was recommended to me by a friend who bought her wedding cake through them a handful of years ago. By the time my fiance and I had arrived on location (after hours and hours of prior cake googling and reading a couple bad reviews on this site) we had some trepidation as to what the quality, and expense would be like.
The cake tasting building is albeit a little small, but not extremely so. We were met with nothing but very warm and friendly associates who were nothing but helpful, accommodating, and conversational. They kindly asked what our wedding date was and guided us to a wonderfully kind and fun older gentleman who chatted with us about the cakes, our wedding, and the history of truffles. We were offered as much samples as we could eat. We were able to sit down with our samples at romantic intimate tables and flip through books and books of beautiful examples.
the specialty cakes we interesting and unique flavors that were perfectly moist and not too sweet. The prices are comparable to KingSoopers and better. they also provide a free one year anniversary cake!
They are more than willing to work with us to create teh perfect custom cake for us with no additional charge. We are greatly looking forward to our Das Meyer wedding cake June 2010!
