I went there today to buy cleaning supplies, and for the few minutes it took to find them, none of the three clerks at the counter helped me. They ignored me and chatted with each other. Once I did find my stuff, they told me that it was a minimum amount of $10 in order to use my credit card (a violation of MasterCard rules). I left without the items, made a complaint to MasterCard, and will never go back. Gander Mountain is just a few minutes away, and the difference is night and day.
Don't waste your time..
I've gone to this store many times to shoot since I moved to Golden and I will never go there again.
Lets start with the lie right up front on this page, it is not, by any means, Colorado's largest gun shop. That is a joke and not even a good one. Apparently they have never heard of places like 5280 Armory which is just a few miles away and is much bigger just to name one.
The prices on all their firearms are overpriced and their ammo is absolutely ridiculous. If you are looking to shop, look elsewhere.
Now to the staff. There is exactly one person there that isn't either a jerk or a retard. Most of the staff acts like they are God and expect you to treat them as such. Don't bother trying to disagree with them, you are better off beating your head against the wall on your way out. They don't know a damn thing and are only interested in peddling their wares, not on actually informing you. The two people who left positive comments regarding how knowledgeable and helpful the staff are must not have any experience with firearms or shooting. They are good salesmen and if you don't know anything to start with, they will convince you that their garbage is gospel.
On to the range. To start with, they like to rip you off. If you go in with a group, they charge you all full price and put all of you on one lane with only one person allowed to shoot and only two allowed in the range at any one time. This way they get all of the money but don't have to provide the service you are paying for... It isn't just that though, the ventilation sucks. If you are going to shoot there I recommend investing in a stock of those disposable masks so you don't get low level lead poisoning. The lighting is terrible, so thats good if you need to practice your low light shooting, otherwise it sucks.
Overall, I would avoid this place if at all possible. Definitely do not go there if you are new and looking for advice or help because you will get screwed over. There are much better stores and much better ranges so shop around and don't put up with The Firing Line's crap. There is one positive though; it is really funny to listen to the crazy old guy that works there talk about how he carries an extra 1911 on his ankle.
Love this place.
Love going here. My husband and I are here weekly. It takes a while to get the weapon you want, but well worth the wait.
Love Mondays ladies, shoot free.
I am glad the who made the complaint is not coming back gives me more time on the range.
Yeh, you can take the shorter class for a cheaper cost, these guys do not mess around. They know their stuff and have their stuff together.
If you are looking for a weapon and cant find it any where else they will order it in for you.
Firing Line vs. The DMV.
My experiences with the Firing Line staff has almost always been bad. For a long time I went there because it was the only game in town and it seems like the staff is aware of this fact.
Last time I went there I walked in saw a line to get on the range. I've been shooting there for years and never saw something like that. This was the beginning of the Obama-mania. I asked a staff member how long he thought the wait would be and he replied "I don't know. Long line, small range. What da you think?" He then turned his back and walked away from me.
-Some good deals/ not-so-good deals on guns depending on what your looking for.
-Condescending staff more interested in you admiration than a sale.
-Ghetto shooting range that's freezing.
-Most ridiculous Permit to Carry class I've ever seen offered. You can find at least 3 other classes locally that are 4 hrs long (half of theirs) and a quarter of their price.
I've purchased guns and used there range for over 15 years due a lack of options. Now I've found options I will never return.
I don't want to give this place any stars, but I am forced to publish this comment. Let say I give Firing Line 5 Stove Pipe Jams.
Excellent Staff and Competitive Prices.
I have shopped here several times and every firearm purchase in the state has been here. They have my loyalty! When everyone else is limiting ammo, Firing Line will sell me a case!!! They are well stocked and have a great selection of handguns and long guns. Sometimes they seem understaffed because when it gets busy, customers end up waiting at the counter.... but it's definitely worth it because once you have their attention, they are very down-to-earth and helpful.
I am a young woman and have trouble shopping anywhere for weapons, ammunition, or anything like that. When I walk into Firing Line, I don't get the blank stares and comments that I've received everywhere from Gander Mtn to Bass Pro. These guys are genuine, and don't treat me awkwardly because I'm a petite and pretty and happen to be in the market for an assault rifle :)
I have spent thousands of dollars here and will continue to purchase my recreational shooting supplies here. They are fantastic and I would highly recommend them! I'm not crazy about their range as it's a bit dingy and I prefer shooting outdoors.
