Not what it used to be. Used to be my favorite place for people watching, long islands, and giant skillets of nachos. But I went there last night with some out of town guests, and I was so embarrased at having hyped it up! The menu has changed - now it's just a sub-par overpriced burger joint. Where are the heapings of toppings and fresh fries and lovely plating? Tiny Philly Cheesesteak looked like fast food, skinny chicken skewers, weak cocktails. We'll miss you, Paramount!
Feel like being sick?.
Have made a few trips to the Paramount Cafe and have found it unsatisfactory each time. The sandwiches are typically bland and room temperature. (Regardless of whether you order hot or cold dishes). Sweet potato fries are good, but not worth the trip.
While the waitstaff is generally good, the bartenders are hard to catch and snotty. When inquiring about the margaritas one night, we were told, "I wouldn't know -- *I* don't drink tequila." That, perhaps, should have been the first sign. A drink later (Long Island Iced Tea (bad) and a Margarita (infinitely worse; all sugar and mix, no liquor)), we both felt sick and decided it was time to leave.
Yes, it is inexpensive, but there's a very good reason for that. If you're looking for a happy hour stop, go right next door to the Appaloosa Grill for the same deals and much, much better food and service.
Too Many Other Choices....
Well firs the pros: Our server was great, she was friendly and knowledgeable, good location to watch the folks on the Mall.
The bad: The food was below average at best. I ordered a bison burger, on the rare side of med-rare. I eat bison quite often, so I was excited to try what I thought would be fresh, local bison. My burger arrived and what taste it did have was not bison, but regular hamburger, but the problem was it was cooked well done!!
The server was apologetic and offered a replacement, and the manager took it off the bill. My wife got the fresh tuna with salad and again it was below average-nothing interesting or flavorful. With so many other restaurants so close by, I would not try it again.
Avoid at all costs. Passed up for a table not just once, but twice, even though the hostess knew we were waiting at the bar. Server forgot our appetizers and the onion rings are the worst I have ever had in my life. Definitely not recommended.
Editorial Review by Citysearch Editors. Pair 16th Street Mall people-watching with standard American fare served in a historical building; notable on-tap beer selection, happy hour.
Paramount Cafe.
If you're in the mood for a burger and a beer I couldn't think of a better place than the Paramount Cafe.
They had a free pool tournament on one night and the Coors Light girls were there another. This place always has something going on. I even think they have live music on Fridays and Saturdays.
A great place to relax while downtown. The appetizers alone are worth going for, and it gets even better when the entree arrives!
