Editorial Review for The Palm – by Citysearch Staff

In Short
With its Italian-tinged menu and playful artwork on the walls, this national chain (which got its start in 1926) maintains a congenial atmosphere even as corporate patrons use company credit cards to pay for 36-ounce New York strips or jumbo lobsters. Sitting in dark wood chairs placed at tables topped in white linen, suit-jacketed gents and ladies sup on prime steaks, chops and hearty portions of classic Old World dishes like spaghettini marinara and veal piccata.

We eat dinner out once a week and we never had a problem in the past with the Palm - in fact, I always told everyone we loved it, but they thought I was crazy. (we are just average joes who love to eat good food). We've dined at the Palm perhaps 5 times in the last 10 or 15 years and loved it - never a bad meal or service. Always satisfied. I never understood why people gave bad reviews, but now I totally understand. What happened to the Palm? I think it's a better "lunch" restaurant. Anyway, I received a coupon in the mail and lobster sounded delicious (I'm a big seafood lover from Maryland). Wrong! The lobster was overcooked, stinky, and there is no way it was a 5 lb. lobster split between us. (I've had a 4 lb. lobster there before and had to take some home). My salad was old and the greens were yellow - our side dishes were cold. Great wine menu - - I'd only get drinks at the bar (friendly bar tenders), and go elsewhere to eat good food. After dropping over $200 for two we were totally disappointed. We had good attentive service the first half hour, when the restaurant was empty. However, once the dinner crowd filled the restaurant, we were ignored by everyone. Only a place to be seen & show off jewelry. Plenty of other great restaurants in Denver to enjoy quality food!

Pros: Wine Menu, Bartenders

Cons: Seafood and Steak poorly prepared

My husband and I went to The Palm last night for our annivesary. We usually go to capital grille and del frisco. Since we were staying downtown and cap grille was booked we decided to try the palm. First off the decor was unappealing to me (but I know that is subjective) I like atmosphere this place is boring with caricatures as their wallpaper. Our server was fine and we ordered the steak tartare app which was fine, but nothing special (L'atelier has the best steak tartare). We both ordered the bone-in ribeye (our fav) which is cheaper here than del friscos. My husband orders his steaks well done and I get mine med. When our steaks came out his was charred on the outside and completely cooked all the way through. Mine was barely pink in the middle it was more well done then even med. well. We do not send food back because I have heard too many horror stories about the nasty things they do to food when you send it back. So we ate our steaks (good quality bone in ribeye is very tender even when cooked through). But we did notify them of the situation. The first manager that came over was very nice and asked if he could do anything. We didn't because we ate most of our meal. So he offered us a free dessert which i thought was nice, but we really didn't want anything. Then a second manager a woman came over and told us we could have a free dessert, UH we don't want it. My husband felt that the woman thought that we complained about our food to get a free dinner or something. Uh yes that ticked me off. We look young, we are not. We spend way more money at cap grille and del frisco's. So no we will not be going back to The Palm. Learn to cook a steak.

Pros: quality of meat,

Cons: they don't know how to cook it right. Their woman manager.
