Editorial Review for McCormick's Fish House and Bar – by Ephraim Mallery
In Short
Adjacent to the Oxford Hotel, this venerable restaurant reflects the tradition of Denver's oldest grand hotel--including having white-jacketed servers. The bar area, separated from the restaurant by a hallway, hosts an older crowd. Appetizers include calamari and baked Brie as well as bay shrimp in a puff pastry. Some of the more exotic entrees are halibut stuffed with Brie, shrimp, crab and dill, and the wonton citrus-crusted Hawaii tombo with plum sauce and wasabi cream.

The idea to re-discover McCormick's came while reminiscing about old times at the Cruise Room. (Keep in mind, I'm not 80 and I eat out 4 times a week). The food was phenomenal as was the service. Because of the atmosphere of the dining room, one can't help but feel they've been transported to another time. And, did I mention the food?!? Each dish including the crab bisque, the shrimp scampi and beet salad were simple and allowed the true taste of food to shine. In a time when high-end restaurants are trying to out-do eachother with complicated recipies and unlikely pairings, it is nice to return to tried and true dishes where the flavor of the food is not distracted by inventive infusions or unknown ingredients. For those that are leery of visiting a seafood restaurant in the heart of cattle country, know that the fish is flown in daily and the recipie changes everyday depending on the catch. I could not discern between the freshness of the seafood I enjoyed at McCormick's, from the restaurants I've visited on both coasts. Simply delightful!
Pros: Cruise Room for a grapefruit martini
Cons: Parking

I’m not sure what has happened to this establishment, but my meal last night was not very good at all. We actually left after the salad course. The service was pleasant, but the food was way off the mark. I have dined here many times before and had great meals. It has been some time since my last visit, but I will not be returning anytime soon. Our appetizers were nothing short of bad. The Popcorn Shrimp might as well have come out of a freezer and been cooked at home in my own oven. The Oysters were so obnoxiously large, that we had to cut them in half. We had to ask twice for bread that was boarder line stale. Our Caesar Salads were bad as well. With The Oceanaire and Willie G’s right around the corner, these guys better raise the game because both of those locations are far superior to what we experienced last night.
Pros: Good Service
Cons: The Food!!!
