Friendly and Knowledgeable staff.. I just bought my dress at Mariel, and I have to say it was my best experience in a bridal salon, as I have been to many stores. Denise knew just the dress for me! She really knows what looks best for your figure and how to give you your own unique look. Her service is amazing and I can see how she has been in business for 27 years. I would personally recommend this store to everyone who is looking for bridal and also for the latest fashions.
Why is this store still open???. Denise, the owner, is very rude and snotty. Bad attitude only skims the surface of her horrible customer service. I am shocked she is still in business. I love shopping on Larimer street and have purchased several items from Merile. The store has great items. Every time I buy something I promise myself I will never go in the store again because of Denis but my last trip was the ?straw that broke the camels back.? I went in the store and Denis did not acknowledge that I was in the store. Then when I was waiting to pay a customer Denis was helping in the dressing room was ready to pay for her large purchase and although I was a the register and been told to hold ?just one moment? Denis checked the other women out prior to helping me, I was mortified and walked out. I will NEVER go back to her store.
Hope you're good enough for them to help.
In August I flew home from graduate school to look at wedding dresses in Denver where I'm getting married in March. I wasn't really sure how I felt about wedding boutiques but I was so excited to go to Mariel, its always been one of my favorite shops in Larimer Square. When I called Mariel to make an appointment the week before I was in town they told me I needed to be ready to buy if I came in, because they couldn't guarantee their stock. I asked if it would be okay if a gave them a couple days notice since I was in town for a week and I wasn't sure which day I would be at that point and they said that would not be a problem at all. I also provided them with the dates I would be in town, still not a problem at all.
Early in my visit my sister and I headed to lunch down at Rioja after a morning of shopping and decided to stop into Mariel to see if we could make an appointment for later in the week and maybe even check out what they had then (since the store was empty and there were two people working). After waiting for 10 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us, while they sat behind the desk and chatted, we were told they did not have any appointments until October. When I told them I called last week and was told I could easily get in, she looked at me and said flippantly, "well things change". I spend a lot of times shopping in small boutiques in Denver (in fact I used to live above one) and have NEVER had an experience like that. Their shop is adorable and I've always loved their clothes but apparently if you want a wedding dress from them you have to be deemed worthy.
Unique Dresses at Reasonable Prices.
I recently bought my dress at Mariels and want to share my experience since I like many rely on reviews. Is Mariels customer-service oriented? No, not really. They arent going to throw champagne and attention at you when you walk through the door to look for a wedding dress. They are going to be abrupt and straightforward: know what you want, dont come here to try on dresses to figure out what you want, and be ready to buy. Simple as that. I have spent the last 4 weekends running all over central CO looking at and trying on wedding dresses. I learned what fabric, cut and style I liked but didnt have that "this is it" moment with any of the dresses. In this process, I narrowed down what I wanted and when I made my appt. at Mariel's (at the end of all of my appts) I walked through the door with a specific style in mind (for my destination wedding, it needed to be lightweight fabric, sheath style, and under $500). I found that at Mariel's. JoAnn, the mother of the owner, is very helpful and nice. She doesnt pressure you but she's in sales so she is highly suggestive. I didnt mind this at all. Her daughter Denise who owns the shop has a reputation for being unfriendly however my only dealings with her were when I made my appt. and she was just upfront about the type of shop they run - since these are one-of-a-kinds that you buy off the hanger, they limit the amount of handling of the dresses. Having just bought a beautiful embellished dress from them, I'm grateful for that policy.
Ladies, if you want treated liked a princess, go to Cherry Creek and pay a lot of money to be pampered and buy your dream dress for thousands of dollars. However if you want to find unique dresses at EXTREMELY reasonable prices, follow the rules of Mariels and make an appt to view their gowns (no walkins accepted) and go visit all of the other bridal shops first to determine what looks good on you and to understand how much dresses really cost, then go to Mariels.
Great place to buy a wedding gown. My experienve with Mariel was amazing! The staff was so helpful and honest. They treated me great. I ended up buying my wedding dress there and couldn't be happier. The dress is beautiful!! After trying on dresses at other bridal shops around denver, I would have never thought I could get a dress that nice for under $600. I would recommend this shop to anyone.
High society in Larimer Square.
This store epitomizes the whole Larimer Square deal. Very "I'm in downtown Denver, and I want to feel like I'm shopping on Rodeo Drive." I admit, I went in with preconceptions. I thought that the staff would be rude to me because I just wearing a tshirt and jeans, not the usual designer duds. My mistake. This is actually a pretty cool boutique.
A bit pricey for me (everything costs an average of $200-$400). Still fun to look around and explore. I did like the camisoles on the east wall. They were original and would brighten up any summer or fall outfit. If I was looking to jazz up a date outfit, I would plop down the $48 to spoil myself.
If you need a special occasion dress and want to stand out from the crowd, this is a good place to look. Every long and short dress has a lot of intricate details, like beading or cutouts.
The back of the store is dedicated to wedding dresses, but you might need an appointment to look at them/ try them on. I'm not sure.
The jewelry was a bit gaudy for my taste. Every pair of earrings looked to be for someone "high society" or for someone going to prom. Look (you guessed it) very expensive.
The customer service was great and friendly. Can't complain. Thanks for changing my original thoughts about you, Mariel employees.
Helpfull, Freindly, Nice Selection!!!. Mariel's was a great experience for me. Joanne was very freindly and helpful, giving me a nice variety to help me decide what would be the best style for my body type and ceremony location. My mother and Aunt were with me and enjoyed not only looking at the gorgeous wedding dresses but also the selection of dresses for other occasions. In addition I was able to order something origional that is only available from Mariel's. The prices were reasonable and Denise the owner was very helpfull and knowledgeable at my fiting appointment. My five year old daughter was with me and enjoyed her expeirience as well.
Bad customer service. I had a very bad experience with Mariel's. First of all, when I bought my dress and veil they packaged them in a way that when I got home and opened the garment bag, my brand new veil was caught in the zipper and ripped. When I let them know what happened they just told me "well we tell the brides to be careful." Needless to say I was not to blame and they refused to have any accountability or be held responsible. They were clearly negligent when they packaged it and refused to admit it. Secondly, I was told by the Tailor that they should not have sold me the dress because it was too big for my size and they mis-measured me. My dress has been at the tailors for two months because of their negligent service and is still not done. I am getting married in two weeks! The alterations will now cost more than the dress, again because of their negligence. Lastly, I bought my wedding shoes there when I bought the dress. The rhinestone fell out of the buckle immediately after putting them on during a dress fitting. I tried to exchange them and they told me they could not help me because the shoes were purchased in January. They gave me a rhinestone and told me to glue my shoes back together before the wedding. This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I do not recommend them to anyone and urge everyone not to use their services. There dresses are reasonable but you pay a price in many other ways.
Stickler for a reason- Great service!. I've read the reviews and it's either a love or a hate relationship with Mariel's. I loved the boutique! We were warned that they are very stickler about appointments before going in there and were prepared. It's for a great reason-- They sell dresses off the floor in order to keep prices low therefore a sales associate has to help you try on every dress. You're not allowed to touch any of the dresses you try on-- which keeps each dress in pristine condition. LOVED the store and the service! Found my dress. Would highly suggest to anyone who is seriously looking at buying a wedding dress or any funky fun piece of clothing. Wouldn't suggest to a bridezilla who wants her way and insists on being a princess!
Where are these unhappy people shopping?. Honestly, I don't understand where these dissatisfied people are shopping, because it cannot possibly be Mariel on Larimer. The clothing, bridal selections and customer service in Denise's shop are absolutely second to none. I have been in her shop many times and am always treated with respect, kindness and courtesy by all the staff, as have all the other customers I have encountered during my visits there. The energy that Denise and her staff cultivate is welcoming and warm.
