Editorial Review for Panzano – by Ephraim Mallery
In Short
While dark-wood accents and paintings summon a quiet elegance, the clank and sizzle from the open kitchen, piles of fresh-baked bread and animated conversations keep the room lively. Pasta highlights include the homemade ravioli steeped in cream sauce. Instead of settling on just one dessert, finish with the selezione de giorno--three or four small selections from the menu that allow a few bites of each of the chef's favorites.

This was the worst dining experience I have ever had. My boyfriend and I have been waiting tables for over 10 years, and we dine out all the time. I have never had such bad service in my life. The waiter didn't seem to care that we were there. It took 2 and half hours to complete our meal and we saw the server three times, and that was just to tell us that someone was on the way with what we were waiting for. The manager brought our water, wine, and other people brought our food. A busser cleared our table everytime and even chatted with us about dessert. We tipped the busser. I would not recommend this place to anyone - food was not good enough to make up for service. The calamari was heavily breaded and greasy. The grilled caeser salad, however was amazing. We had the carbonara and the bistecca. The carbonara was ok, but I personally don't like cream in my carbonara. The steak was cooked perfectly, but all the flavors on the plate did not seem to go together. The gnocchi was way too floury, tasted like eating biscuit dough. Overall, I definitely would not recommend this place. There are too many good places in Denver to settle for mediocre, especially for the price. Try Venice if you are downtown.

I was spoiled years ago by a Table-side Ceasar Salad in Portland OR and never found anything close to the experience and taste. But last month, the skies opened and there was Panzano! Ever the optomist, wherever we go, I always try the 'featured' Caesar. At the entrance, there were several Denver competition awards for Panzano's Caesar Salad. They will need more space for their future awards, becuse the unique preparation and presentation has no peer in Denver. You are in for a treat. This was my whole lunch because it is a whole head of Romaine (halved and flash heated a few seconds on the hickory fire grill for light smokey taste. It is served to your liking with an incredible, fresh dressing, plus a few slices of anchovie at your request. (I NEVER had anchovies before my Caesar Salad discovery years ago, and now they are a staple in every Caesar Salad and Pepperoni Pizzas). Lunch was quick and reasonably priced. The service made you feel VERY special. Everyone is so gracious and the setting has the Monaco chic charm.
