Terrible service appears to be the new
paradigm at the Market. My wife and I are long time customers and never had reason to complain,
until today. Apparently, asking to have your baked good warmed, is not a good idea at this establishment. When I asked to have my danish warmed at the downstairs coffee bar, the barista with a frowned brow asked "what the...who the...what do you need?". She then directed me upstairs to the deli dismissively. After heading upstairs and realizing that the deli personnel were too busy to help, I commented out loud to my wife about not being able to get my danish heated. A Market employee who was passing by, asked me about the problem. After listening to my request, he said " sure, I can ruin that for you". When the danish was returned to me, sure enough, it had been nuked 3 Mile Island style. I wasn't sure whether it was steam or smoke rising from the plate. In the end, I learned my lesson not to ask for any special treatment. The lesson for managers of the Market is that customers will choose not to come back if given similar treatment. Too bad, In previous years I would have suggested the Market as a place to go.

Enjoy the atmosphere, not the food. Or risk food poisoning..
I got food poisoning from their 3 salad platter about a year ago. I decided not to eat there again until several weeks ago and once again,
got food poisoning that lasted for 4 days.
My issue with the Market is that I don't believe them to have good food policies, in that they hang onto the food for so long, beyond the point where it should be kept. So even if it is prepared correctly, a lot of it has gone bad, yet they still serve it.
I have friends who work there and they said that the restaurant basically doesn't throw food away, they hang on to things until they sell. The quality of the food, esp, the eggs and animal products are considered by employees to be atrocious and they said they don't eat the food themselves because they have also gotten food poisoning before.
So make your own decisions. But you have been warned. Maybe only eat things that aren't raw. Their desserts are great. I wouldn't have written this, if when I told them what had happened, they hadn't been jerks and basically laughed in my face. Its a bummer they don't keep things cleaner, because I always liked going here.

ADA (American with Disabilties Act) Discrimators!!!!!.
I visited the "The Market" Located at 1445 Larimer Street, 80202 in Larimer Square on May the 26Th 2011 with my " Medical Service Dog" I
was treated nice by the employees at the counters as I ordered my goods. Then as I was leaving the upper restaurant the OWNER "Mark Greenberg" informed me that I could not bring my Medical Service Animal on the premises again. He stated and I quote " I let you get you things this time but it wouldn't happen again" He took my money then delivered the blow how thoughtful.
I tried to stay calm and explain to him the my "dog" was not a pet but a "Medical Service Animal" who has the right to be with me here in the establishment. I pointed to her scarf which states "Medical Service Animal" Scarfs are often used for puppies. However it is not required according the ADA (American with Disabilities Act) that the Service Animal wear anything! I tried to show him her Identity card which explains the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) clearly states her presence is a "Federal Law" He put his hand up in my face and stated "he did not care what that card said" I told him he was violating my rights according to the law. At this point he got in my face and yelling and stated " If the health department came in they would shut down this place" I then explained to him the Federal laws override any state laws like the Health Department. Being totally obstinate he yell " Just Get out!" in front of the whole store humiliating me. I asked for his name and he walked away. Then he followed me and said "you want my name here" He handed me two cards the said he was the Owner! I was surprised that anyone operating a public business could be so ignorant of the laws directly applying the establishment!
Read on people it gets even worst...
I was shaking and crying so badly I could barely exit! as He continued to yell " Get Out!" I did "get out" with the help of kind strangers I made it off his premises. I called 911 and dispatch sent officer's immediately! One officer went into the "The Market" the other officer stayed with me and explained my rights to me suggesting that I follow through so this wouldn't continue to happen again or to anyone else. The officer who went in returned and stated with his finger's in the air forming quotations " he magically disappeared" Denver PD Rocks! I wasn't expecting help really from anyone but the ADA. I felt even more vindicated when 9 news tried to interview him the next day regarding his actions and his apply was "NO COMMENT"
This is not slander, I'm simply telling "MY" experience at "THE MARKET"

A million delicious choices.
I really enjoy the Market. If you cannot decide what you want to eat, or you are with a group that can't come to an agreement, this is the
perfect place. There are sandwiches, hot food selections, a salad bar, many pasta salads, cakes, ice cream, and pastries. The Market also has a large selection of beverages from a coffee bar to wine to soda and juice. I think the sandwiches may be a bit overpriced, but the rest of the food here is very fairly priced and the portions are huge. I work downtown and regularly go here for both lunch and dinner, the Market is open late. I have recommended the Market to many co workers who wanted to go to lunch together but could not agree or did not know what the others would like to eat, and they always come back happy. Also a great place for kids!

Overpriced, over-rated mediocrity.
I am very surprised to read all of the rave reviews of The Market on this site. I work right around the corner and have stopped in many
times for coffee, other beverages, or sandwiches. Every time I have gone here I have been beyond disappointed with the quality of the food, the service provided and the value for the price. Although the store itself is very charming and has great outdoor seating--good for people-watching and enjoying the sunny Denver weather--the prices here reflect more on their probable high rent rather than the quality of their food. A basic turkey sandwich with lettuce, a slice of cheese, mediocre bread and yellow French's-type mustard ran me about $7-8. The bread tasted like a supermarket roll, the lettuce was plain old iceburg (not even some Romaine?) and it did not even come with anything other than a wilted pickle--not even a deli pickle. I know that CO is not a mecca for deli's and as an East-coaster I should not have the same expectations as I would of ones in NY, Boston or Philly,--but really, how can they charge what they charge for this mediocre food? It honestly is overpriced Subway. I paid over $3.50 for an iced coffee this afternoon, and I even brought my own travel mug. The Tattered Cover does not even charge this much and they tend to be a little pricy as well. When I asked if the price of the coffee was inflated for the DNC I was told that their cold-brew 'Toddy' process was more expensive. I own a Toddy coffee maker-it is essentially a plastic bowl with a hole on the bottom. You steep the coffee in cold water and then let it filter through. It is absolutely not more expensive than brewing regular drip coffee. Service at the coffee bar is better than at the deli or the bakery counters--prepare to wait in a long, slow and inefficient lines for overpriced sandwiches and baked goods. I wish I could say something positive, and I do occasionally return in hopes of a better experience but today's visit will likely be my last.
