Denver >Kevin Taylor Restaurant
Horrible!. I took my boyfriend to Restaurant Kevin Taylor for his birthday. I dropped 150$ for food that was good, but certainly not excellent by any means. The wait staff was extremely inattentive. We waited at the door several minutes before being spoken to or seated for our reservation. I had to ask several times for even my water to be refilled. All of this I could have handled even for the money if it weren't for the fact that not 10 minutes after walking out of the restaurant my boyfriend and I both got extremely sick. We ordered different entrees and appetizers. We couldn't even make it home without having to stop. I paid 150$ to ruin our evening. I would never recommend this restaurant.
Good Food....Not worth it. The menu was quite selective. While the food was great, i felt like it was not worth the money. If you had to do a bang for buck comparison with fast food, it would be like spending $9 at Arby's on a combo. The wait staff were attentive but almost too attentive. The dining room looked like something on a 1960's movie. If you want food with a professional culinary touch then come here, but if you are looking for an experience then look elsewhere.
Best Food in Denver, But....
Decided to take my girlfriend to KT's for her birthday. They called me ahead of time to confirm the reservation and ask if there were any special occasions. I notified the restaurant that it was my girlfriend's birthday and they said there would be a surprise complementary desert. I thought that would be perfect and expected the best in service.
My girlfriend never received any recognition for her birthday after dining nor any complimentary desert. There was a lot of extras for other parties for engagements and anniversaries that night. We just got the check for a lot of $$$$. They forgot. Despite how good the food was the experience sucked. I emailed them after the fact and never received a reply.
The atmosphere is extremely stuffy and distant. Definitly not an intmante, romantic restaurant. I felt like I was a mile from my girlfriend at the table. She joked that the feeling was that we were on a high school date for how awkward the table and the service was. I felt the same.
My advice is to avoid restaurant KT's unless you are a die hard foodie. There are so may other places in Denver with good food for less $, with so much better service and atmosphere.
Restaurant Kevin Taylor will drop to a 2 Star Mobil Restaurant in the next review.
I have dined in the finest restaurants in the world, not to brag, but to indicate I have the knowledge to speak intelligently about fine dining.
DIning Room Atmosphere: Slightly above average
Service: Well below average for a four star restaurant. The wait staff are too noticably present. In a restaurant of this level they should be like ghosts - Attentive, but never seen.
Food: Great Presentation, but the food is fair at best.
I had the fois gras, which by itself was excellent, but it was totally overwhelmed in flavor my the Vanilla French Toast - not a good pairing.
The lobster salas was worse. The lobster is to be the focus of this dish, but the large pieces of avocado again overwhelmed the dish.
For the main course I ordered the Seared Hawaiian Tuna. The highlight of this dish was the Pork Belly Potstickers. The tuna was lacking in both texture and flavor.
For dessert, I enjoyed the Bittersweet "Liquid Center" Chocalate Cake - Very Good.
Price: The normal day to day price for the four course meal of $65 would be fair, but to escalate the price to $125 per person on special occasions is not.
Restaurant Kevin Taylor is at best a Two Star Restaurant that is charging Five Star Prices with Two Star Service and Food.
Great!!. This is true five star service! And while not cheap, it was not nearly as expensive as i thought it would be. The food is absolutely fantastic. I will go back again and again!
Meh, hard to get too excited about..
Upscale- for Denver yes... the "best" in Denver- no way. Good flavors, but a little un-inspired on the execution- more flair by rote. Where it is most lacking is in service. This is not a michelin starred restaurant in any respects in relation to service or overall execution. The sommelier, at least when I was there, was severely lacking in both knowledge and enthusiasm- wine is fun- and getting paid to share wine experiences should be fun as well- or at least interested/ing.
There *are* michelin star worthy restaurants for the same price in the Denver metro area (Frasca, Flagstaff house)...
Again, not a bad, and all in all, can be a fun and tasty evening out. But RKT misses a few beats to get more than 3 stars.
Similar, yet in my opinion "better" options in Denver (besides those already listed)
Left Hungry and Disappointed By Food and Service. We've heard some great things about the food and the service at the Restaurant Kevin Taylor (Teatro Hotel). My husband and I decided to have Saturday night date there. I was first disappointed by the lack of ambience and atmosphere at the restaurant. The room is awkward, simple furniture, lack of decorations and style. There were some empty tables with no settings, just plain white table cloths. The waiters were courteous but not friendly. They seemed depressed and not happy at all. When the food arrived I was surprised by the tiny portions. We ordered the hot chocolate cake for dessert, it was really good, but then again, I love chocolate. Overall, we spend too much money to walk out feeling hungry, unsatisfied and disappointed. If you are looking for a fancy ambience and some old fashioned style try something else ? like the Palace Arms at the Brown Palace. Their Kobe steak is impeccable and the chocolate torte is to die for.
What happened to customer service?. My husband and I excitedly made reservations at Kevin Taylor for our first anniversary. We were seated promptly and introduced to out waitress who reviewed the menus with us after a short wait. The host was wonderful and attentive, helped us choose an excellent bottle of wine to pair with our meal. The glass of wine I ordered wih my appetizer was poured promptly while my husband's beer took another 15 minutes. Appetizers were delicious. The waitress forgot what I had ordered and came back to ask, and even after that I was almost served the incorrect soup. Our meals were great, we really enjoyed the food presentation and flavors, but the service at this pricey restaurant could stand to improve.
Simply the Best.
My husband and I went to Kevin Taylor for our first anniversary. To put it simply this place was the best!
The staff was attentive, but never intrusive, or too stuffy. They kept the atmosphere friendly, which was refreshing. They knew their stuff and were very professional.
We did the seven course tasting with the wine pairing. Each course was delicious and beautifully presented. Our server was able to make very good suggestions and help us pick between two dishes when we were torn. The wines were paired perfectly, the pours were the perfect size, and the sommelier was very knowledgeable. At the end of the meal we were pleasantly full, but not stuffed.
Our favorite was the lobster course, but it was very difficult to pick a favorite out of all of the delicious choices!!
Go, eat, drink, and enjoy!
No Ka Oi. As they say in Maui- there can only be one way to describe it- simply the best. This is a white linen table cloth, mind your table manners and indulge your palate kind of restaurant- so if you don't enjoy fine dining in a fine dining environment, don't go. On the flip side, for an important occasion this is the sure bet. The service is impeccable, the food is sublime and the ambience is sophisticated. The lobster bisque is obscene and it will take much restraint to not lick the bowl... The beef and lamb dishes were both beautiful upon presentation- and even better on the palate! The chocolate souffle dessert was nice, but it was the new dessert - root beer parfait that had us giggle happy- it was over the top delicious. Your whole evening at Kevin Taylor is an experience in sophistication, both in cuisine and ambience- bravo!
