A bookstore right up my alley.
I live right up the alley from Tattered Cover (well technically down the alley) by a few houses so we feel pretty lucky and are frequent customers. The people in there are more than exceptional as far as customer service (they are really nice) and will special order anything they don't have in at the moment. I have an 8 year old son who loves the children's section. We have a favorite bench in one of the book sections where I can use my computer for a bit while he reads to review a book he might like to buy. His most recent book was Ghost Hunt and he says it's really good (all you kids in the same age range). They just special ordered Houdini's Paper Magic for my son. He doesn't know it yet because it's a surprise. They giftwrap and I've gotten lots of cool pairs of eye glasses there. I lose them fairly often, so to have a place so close I can replace them in a minute is great. It's wonderful to be so close to such a place. (Oh, and the empanadas in the coffee shop are delicious, as are the books). They also have great lectures and book signings for many different interests. The ones I've gone to were memorable and worth my time.
I know that anyone who loves books knows Tattered Cover, but sometimes we tend to take good things for granted, so why not give them props!

The best environment for browsing books in Denver.
The Tattered Cover is a fantastic local bookstore that's been in Denver for a long time. Recently the Cherry Creek location moved to Colfax, in a refurbished theater which is a bit cathedral-like. There's plenty of place for contemplation of the books, hanging out, sipping coffee, and just enjoying that you're in a bookstore.
The only downside in comparison to other chains like B&N and Borders is the lack of an automatic discount, but the difference is small.

Don't let corporate America take them down.
I have to give credit to this book store. My kids grew up in the one in CC. I hope everyone supports this bookstore, they are a Denver Icon. They staff is wondeful, and it feels like home.

World-famous bookstore blends a neighborhood-library feel with corner-bookshop attitude and cosmopolitan inventory..
In Short
Now more than 30 years old, the Tattered Cover is legendary and beloved for its service and stock--it carries more than half a million books. This landmark is a model of how an independent can compete with chain stores. Between all the stores, there are more than 600 author readings and children's storytimes a year. Like a small-town library, this gigantic (but not overpowering) store has dozens of places where you can disappear.

Great bargain bin finds!.
Although we prefer the Cherry Creek location, these two stores offer about the same books. The staff is friendly and the bargain bin is worth checking out from time to time. They also make an effort to have lots of authors and book related events, which is unique. (I have had poor customer service from the in-store coffee shop.)
