Editorial Review for Aveda Academy – by Bryce Edmonds
In Short
This salon's energy is more city-chic than sipping-herbal-tea. Much of the nail and spa activity takes place up front, while hair related services take up the back half of the salon. Along with standard treatments--facials, massage, wraps--extras include a pressure-point eye treatment to reduce lines and puffiness and a sun source treatment that starts with a body-glo and finishes with an application of self-tanner.

Since about last summer I've been having Holly cut my hair. She's attentive and asks questions. I like that she's completely focused on me and my hair. My pet peeve at a salon is when the stylists talk to each other, a la rude checker style, while ignoring the client. For several years now, I've been searching for a great stylist. Holly fits the bill. I think she really loves what she's doing too. She's extremely skilled which is demonstrated by her amazing ability to anticipate what my hair is going to do if she tweaks the cut. one way or another. Because my hair is naturally curly, I've had a diffficult time finding someone who knows there will be serious issues if shrinkage is not considered. Truth is, I've been holding my breath since finding her, and now I'm finally realzing she's the one and it's been no accident. It's such an important relationship, and I don't mean friendship. She's performing a service for me, I don't want to make friends with my stylist like some women may. It's a business relationship. I wish the salon owners would moderate the music that blasts. I can barely tollerate the throbing techno or screatching acidic sounds that's usually played. It really ruins the Zen experience for me. I love music, but it's like being at the Funky Buhda. My guess is there is a very limited percentage of people that enjoy the music.
Pros: Some extremely skilled stylists, mine is Holly, class act, serious pro
Cons: Music is disconcerting, upon entering reception team are in gossip mode & generally unprofessional

i went in to the aveda academy after seeing their "best cheap haircut" award in the westword. i got a great haircut in an upbeat environment, and even better, i got a scalp massage as part of the deal. i thouroughly enjoyed my visit, and i'd recommend it to anyone.
Pros: price, expertise
