Great food, fun place to go – Kid Friendly, waitress was very into my 4yr old son. I had the California turkey burger (see my picture), and sure did have blue cheese lumps on it but even for a 4yr old it's great. Great sweet potato fries. Will want to try this place again!
The Hornet "Gangster Wrap" – The Gangster Wrap was listed as one of the top 100 must eat dishes in Denver, so I got it and reviewed it:
A cold sandwich or wrap can only go so far with me. And including bacon is a great start. In the end, it was tasty, but when I look at that list of promising ingredients (bacon, cheese, green chili, avocado, turkey), it was a case where the whole was less than the sum of its parts. It’s a good dish, however, and one of the better cold wraps I’ve had in a long time.
Hometown Cooking in a Hip Environment – The Hornet has every type of food! It varies from hamburgers, salads, mexican, sandwiches, mashed potatoes, carribean, etc. There is also a hip exterior and fantabulous drinks!
Ultimate Brunch in Denv-ah! – My friends and I the Hornet for the ultimate Sunday Brunch. There is never a wait for a great high-top bar table and the staff is so cool. Often, we spend 3 hours drinking and hanging out with people who come and go. Our server or bartender is always cool with us. The Sunday bartender serves up the best mimosas in the city and the Bloody Bar rocks...both drinks are only $2. The inexpensive and satisfying menu satisfies both breakfast and lunch cravings- eggs+bacon or a great sandwich.
Check out the Hornet for a relaxed and fun brunch. Bring a new magazine and call your girlfriends for the perfect beginning to a Sunday Funday!
Great Food and Awesome Beer Specials – I have lived in Denver for over ten years and the Hornet is the best place in town for a Friday night or Sunday morning. The late night beer specials are amazing, the food is great (especially the Cubano sandwich) and the weekend build your own bloody mary is fantastic. Sometimes its crowded and the service might be a little slow, but the place is top-notch overall. The crowd is a very nice mix of styles, incomes, and ages too.
good not great – It is clean and food is of average quality but the hostess does like to pack people together for some reason.
BEST MACARONI AND CHEESE WITH LOBSTER!!!! – THIS PLACE IS WONDERFUL. RELAXED, FRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE AND THE FOOD IS TOP NOTCH-EVERY TIME. YOU MUST TRY IT OUT!
<<NACHOS... and STRANGE PEOPLE... – The Hornet nachos are the best I've ever had and I get nachos at a lot of places... Easily a meal for 2, the nachos are loaded with beans, cheese and meat layered throughout the oven-baked chips. To top it off, you get generous dallops of guac and sour cream. They are great to get when you're in the back area playing pool while you watch a game on the big screen. The Hornet is also a great place for people watching (outside as they walk by). The sidewalks of this area of Denver are typically chock-full of an eclectic and unique crowd heading to a theatre, bar or even Kitties perhaps? Possibly the only area in Denver other than parts on Colfax where you might catch a girl walking and holding a leash connected to a leather mask of a guy clad in tight leather pants and vest. True story. But for all the interesting people wandering by, for whatever reason none of them ever seem to actually make it in to the Hornet. Anyway, I suggest it to friends visiting from out of town as well as those who live here and are looking for a new place to check out. Also noteworthy are the Green Chile and Buffalo Chicken sandwiches.
The Hornet - the perfect neighborhood restaurant – I live in the neighborhood and go to the Hornet a couple of times a month. I feel that it has more of a restaurant feel, as opposed to bar feel, although they do draw quite the happy hour crowd with their drink specials and chic, yet relaxed atmosphere. This is a place that you can roll into at 10am on a weekend morning wearing your sweats for a yummy brunch & awesome make it yourself bloody mary bar (which despite the last reviewers comments, it's not free, but is cheap) or you could go there for a delicious, inexepensive weekend dinner in your best going out clothes. I love the chicken lettuce wraps, chicken quessadillas, nachos, & the flautas are SO good! But I've heard good things about the cajun pasta dish and the honey stung fried chicken. The clientele are a mix of young urbanites, and yes, it is DENVER, so you will see the occasional homeless person walk by the big, glass front windows. Overall, I highly recommend the Hornet.
Food used to be better – I love The Hornet and used to go there weekly. The food is not nearly as good as it was 2-3 years ago. While it isn't subpar, it isn't what it used to be at all. The service is usually pretty good. It can get really busy on the weekends, but whatever. As much as I like this place, it disappoints me that it has digressed a bit into something not so unique as it used to be. Drink specials are not too bad. I always love the bloody mary bar on the weekends!
