In Short
The first United States Mint was first created in 1792 and the Denver Mint opened in 1863 as a gold assaying office. Today the Denver Mint produces coins for general circulation, commemorative coins and miniature medals. It's also the only other mint besides Philadelphia that gives tours. The gift shop across the street has collectibles, toys, games and clothing.

The Details on United States Mint

When to Go:

Like the post office, the U.S. Mint is closed on all federal holidays. Summer is the busiest season for tours at the mint. Get there early--reservations are not accepted and many visitors are often turned away by noon.

Know Before You Go:

No photography, food or drink is allowed and all bags are X-rayed.
