In Short – The first United States Mint was first created in 1792 and the Denver Mint opened in 1863 as a gold assaying office. Today the Denver Mint produces coins for general circulation, commemorative coins and miniature medals. It's also the only other mint besides Philadelphia that gives tours. The gift shop across the street has collectibles, toys, games and clothing.
