Best southern style fish. I just eat fish and veggies so I ordered their fish and it was extremely tasty. The BBQ sauce is good and their iced tea is dark, plentiful and full of flavor!
Shead's Fish BBQ. I LOVE M&D's!!! But moved to Centennial last year and it was too far away. Fortunately, an M&D family member opened Shead's Fish BBQ down here - off of Arapahoe Road, behind Target if you turn right at Wells-Fargo. If you love M&D's you'll love this place too - because it's the same recipe! Only it's easier to find with less wait time. Yeah!
Full Slab. This place truly has the best sauce in town. If you are filling crazy try the INFERNO HOT SAUCE WHHOOOAaaa the taste is so good you don't want to stop eating but when you do you will feel some heat. They will try and talk you out of the hot for a reason it is real hot. The medium is my favorite dunk in a slab of ribs and I am good to go... this is the best Q in town Hands Down!!!
Grab the shorties. There's plenty of reviews about the food, service, etc. but let's look at the whole experience. The feel of the newly renovated place is homey. True, I get better service at home but the staff tries, they're honest with you about what's good and what you may not like. I like the short ribs, medium, lightly sauced. Emphasize the "light" part or just order the sauce on the side. The catfish is OK, they do pork ribs and sausage better. Sides are on the blah side. Portions are huge but save yourself for some cobbler. This is their best dessert. Paintings from local artists surround you and combine that with the friendliness of the place, well you can overlook a few things. Everybody's view of 'que is different, so I'm not going to tell you that it's the best in town, just that I like it. For you lovers of this kind of cuisine, this is one to put on your list to judge for yourself.
Some stuff great, others not.. We tried this place since it was within walking distance of our B&B. The service was pretty slow as others have mentioned, I don't think it was necessarily because of lack of trying, they seemed a bit understaffed. We had the lemonade, which was fantastic, probably becuase of a lots of sugar, lol. We split the full combo platter and still couldn't finish it (and I'm a big eater). First the good stuff....the ribs and sausages were fantastic (just remember to take the casings off) some of the bets I've had. If you like hot barbeque sauce, this is the place to try some. The sides were all just average (cornbread, macaroni salad, coleslaw) nothing special about them. Now the negatives....the barbeque sauce was great, but they totally drown your food in it, definetly request it on the side like others have suggested. While the ribs and sausages were great, the rest was not, the beef brisket and whatever the pork meat was, were quite below average in my opinion, maybe becuase they were submerged in BBQ sauce. Stick with the ribs...and sausage if you like a kick. Overall, recommended.
delicious ribs. Came here with a large group of 30 people on a Thursday night. We fit nicely in the banquet room off to the side. They arranged a fixed menu at a fixed price which worked well for our large group. The ribs were delicious with the meat tender and falling off the bone. The deep-fried snapper was good but a little bit dry. The green beans were excellent, the mac and cheese good. The banana creme pudding was to die for.
Best ribs in Denver. My husband and I went here and had the hot ribs. They are the best ribs I have ever had, melted in my mouth!! When they say hot they really mean it unlike most places. The cornbread and greens were fantastic. The service was great. I look forward to going back for more!!
Down-home fish and ribs slathered in some of the city's best barbecue sauce..
The Scene
You'll almost miss the place, the lone business surrounded by houses northwest of City Park. The secret is the sauce, a thick concoction that starts out sweet and finishes with heat--and that's the medium. It smothers the ribs, brisket and mountains of hot links. For the indecisive, the combination plate includes smoked chicken, brisket and pork. Fish is the other specialty, the cornmeal-crusted catfish is a house favorite. Don't forget dessert--try the hot peach cobbler.
Hope you have a long time to wait. The food here was very good. I went for the ribs with hot sauce, not for wimps. The wait was soooooooooo long. We went during lunch on the weekend, didn't seem busy but the staff made it seem as if there were 500 people in the building. Just be sure to provide about 2 hours for lunch on weekend. But the food is worth the wait.
A Denver Must Eat!!.
After 3 year's away from Denver, this was one of my first stops back in town. I didn't even recognize the place with the beautiful renovation, but the food was even better than I remembered! A new addition from what I remember is Peach Lemonade -- recommended by Elsie and is really off the hook! My favorite dinner did not let me down -- tender pork slices with mild sauce, mac & cheese and yams. YUM!!! And always more food than I can finish in one sitting. There's always room for banana pudding or Daisy's famous pound cake though! And this time I had to take home the other half od my banana pudding too. I can't wait for lunch tomorrow to enjoy it all over again!
A must eat no matter where you live in Denver!
