Great food, great service.
Well, what can I say about Bella Vista? We go there once a month because it's cheap and it's good. I don't know how they do it. The flavors are excellent and the portions are generous, and let's just say that as far as the service goes, I barely have time to take a seat and they've delivered my Negra Modelo and my partner's glass of water. Two people can get out of there on less than $30 even when you each have a couple drinks.
Bella Vista seems like a holdover from when 20th and Lincoln was skid row, kind of like the Cherry Cricket reminds everyone of what the Cherry Creek neighborhood used to look like. It's down home Tex-Mex with authentic Mexicans running the place and treating you like you're a guest of their family. Even when there's a happy hour crowd, they get your order to you in good time. I once wondered how they could stay in business when the weekend dinner crowd was so small, but then I had the opportunity to go in at noon to retrieve a lost item and found a line out the door. Obviously, the downtown crowd knows good food.
If you like good Tex-Mex, BV is your place.

mexican food without the downtown scene.
Authentic mexican food. The chicken tastes like chicken. The price is reasonal and might be one of my other favorite restaurants. We were just about the only gringos there too!

The hole in the wall you're looking for.
While parking is very tight, especially during lunch, and the outside looks a little decrepid, the food and service is excellent. It is half bar, so it can get a little smoky, but during the summer the patio is open and is very comfortable. They have all my favorites, and some new ones including the "Mexican Hot Dog" which is delicious. The salsa is homemade and excellent, and the chips are baked there. Very good.
