Editorial Review for Mori Sushi Bar and Tokyo Cuisine – by Susan Permut
In Short
Behind the unpretentious exterior of this serene little Japanese restaurant cheek-by-jowl to Coors Field is some of the city's freshest, most flavorful Japanese food. Fresh egg rolls are left open on one side to show their ground pork and vegetables. The soft-shell crab is flavorful and crunchy and comes with a sweet/spicy dipping sauce. The tempura's clouds of batter open to reveal perfectly cooked vegetables. The sushi is fresh and beautifully presented.

This is one of the cheaper sushi places around, and it tasted that way. The seaweed was old and the sushi had that "store-bought" taste to it. We had a spicy tuna roll and an eel roll, and we canceled the rest of our order because it was that bad. We ended up with a safe choice (shrimp tempura) just to satisfy our appettite and left. We learned our lesson and will pay a little more to get good sushi. Next time will go to Kona or Sushi Den.
Pros: Prompt seating (no one was there)
Cons: Bad sushi!!!

With sushi bars being a dime a dozen in Denver, it is important to stand out in a unique way. Mori sushi does that, but in an unsuccessful manner. After reading many quality reviews, I decided to try Mori on a Thursday night with hopes that I would catch the tail end of the happy hour crowd. For the first half hour we were two of the five people in the entire establishment. It's nice to not wait for a table, but much of a restaurants atmpsphere is based around the energy that the patrons bring. Also, the housekeeping seemed to be the last thing on the owners mind as the booth where we were sitting was covered in duct tape to patch the holes. The sushi was mediocre at best, due in part to the poor rolling. This was a small shortcoming that was a detriment to the food, because the flavors were distinct and well-balanced. The sashimi was finely cut and presented beautifully. If you are looking for a low-key sushi bar with a great menu selection I would recommend Mori. However, if you enjoy restaurants with a lively atmosphere, evaluate your options.
