In Short – This joint attracts the hungry and the tired, the club hoppers who straggle in for breakfast and coffee before bed. Of course, the daylight hours are busy as well, especially weekend mornings. All the diner basics are here: steak and eggs, French toast, ham and cheese, a burger. The twist is in the gyro with eggs as breakfast or on a plate for lunch. There are also shakes, malts and freshly baked pies.
A good greasy spoon with spotty service

I've been in Denver for well over 15 years and you can always rely on Pete's for (1) cheap food and (2) a very lively clientele.
That being said...it's impossible to look past the exceptionally rude waitstaff. I stopped in one night to place a 'to go' order and you would think that I was asking the waitress for her first-born child. If I wasn't famished I would have turned around and walked out (which I should have done) but I toughed it out and waited 20 minutes for....a bowl of green chili!! All they had to do was scoop out a cup of soup and wrap 2 tortillas and it took 20 minutes!
Needless to say, the food is acceptable but the poor service is not. I'm definitely heading to The Breakfast King on Mississippi and Santa Fe the next time a late night craving hits...much better service and less attitude.
- Pros: Cheap and open 24/7...what else can a gal ask for?
- Cons: Service as cold as the former Soviet Bloc
Rude Management
by tranquil4peace at Citysearch
I ate at Pete's Kitchen the first few times with no problem receiving good service and great food. I went by myself to Pete's a few weeks ago expecting the same great service. However on this particular night that I entered Pete's waiting to be seated, I was told by the extremely rude Cashier (I learned later she was the Manager) to just get on a stool as there were no booths available for single people. How horribly rude as I am a paying customer and an older lady with a back problem. So, I told her that sitting on a stool is out of the question. A young waitress then proceeded to give me a "mini lecture" that at night single people have to sit on the stools. Eventually, I was seated at the little table next to the window that was so uncomfortable. The rude manager seemed to take pride in her rude behavior. I mentioned to the waitress that it is unprofessional and rude to discriminate. Since I believe in giving second chances, I returned about 2 weeks later by myself right before 10p one night. This time there was a different cashier manager that was so polite and nice telling me I could sit anywhere I choose. This time the waitress was rude as she proceeded to give me a stern lecture while I was sitting in my booth scanning the menu (It was not crowded that night) humiliating me. The waitress then went back to the manager and made a point of making the manager realize that I should not sit in a booth since I am by myself. After this waitress had a 5 minute discussion with the manager she returned and gave me lecture telling me she would allow me a booth this time. She said in the future I cannot have a booth if I eat at Pete's after 10p by myself. To make matters worse, I ordered a well done steak breakfast and received a very rare steak that was eventually corrected although it was full of fat. The food was not that good as well. I always spent over $10 and left a good tip. As long as I am alive, I will NEVER RETURN TO PETE'S KITCHEN. This management staff should be ashamed of their behavior. Just remember, "what goes around comes around." Mistreating people does not go unnoticed by God. I am just a nice lady who wanted a good meal in a comfortable environment with nice waitstaff/management.
