Editorial Review for Nohana – by Ephraim Mallery

In Short
A diverse clientele comes to this hidden spot in a brick building on a busy corner seeking reliable Japanese cuisine. The humble interior holds about a dozen tables and a sushi bar. Visitors shouldn't be fooled by the unpretentious location, the fresh fish rivals Denver's top sushi spots. The usual varieties are available, with a few creative rolls and seasonal specials. There's also light, crispy tempura, traditional bento boxes, spicy and filling soups.

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

This place isn't fancy, but the sushi is amazing! Definitely a find among Colfax. My ABSOLUTE favorite is the Salmon Salad Roll. It depends on what night you come, but we visited Wednesday night and the place was PACKED. We waited nearly an hour for our food after we ordered, but every table was full. Maybe this place isn't such a secret anymore? :)

Pros: Great food, great price

Cons: Bathrooms are kind of scary

Ok, I would have given this place a 1/2 star, but 1 star was as low as I was allowed to rate it. Basically, you could go to any other sushi place in town and have better sushi. The staff were emotionless robots, the place is quaint and cute but a bit dirty looking. The sushi offerings were meager and the sushi itself was tasteless and bland. The worse part was when the sushi chef bent down to answer his cell phone, had a conversation below our eye level, then stood up and finished making some rolls....WITHOUT WASHING HIS HANDS!!!!!!!!! We were so outta there... we just left the uneaten rolls, paid the tab and vowed never again as we both felt sick to our stomachs. Yuck!!!

Pros: At least it wasn't expensive

Cons: Chef's don't wash their hands, poor quality food
