Beware of expired foods - but best meat/ cheese in town.
I'm German and I love to go there and just feel at home. Also the meat/cheese/brats and other sausages are very fresh and definetely the best you can find.
BUT a lot of the items are way overprized, sure they are imported, but that does not justify to quadruple the price. And a loaf of bread that was baked in Colorado Springs for $12 is just insane. On top of that a lot of the items are way past the expiration date. I just bought some bread that at home I discovered was rock hard and stale. On a closer look it had expired two months ago. This bread was in their regular bread section. How can you even have that in a store????
So I spent $4 (it was a small package) that landed in the trash.
So you pay a lot of money for old food that you end up throwing away.
They have a "Sale" Section where they offer expired food for a lower price. But even the lower price is still way to high and for that you get food that is way past the "best by" date. "Best by" gives you a couple of weeks or so, but not 2-3 months or more.
I would only buy the meats and cheeses there, even though since they have all the other expired items who knows if that is even safe???
I can recommend a lot of the Russian stores in town, they often carry European brands at a way better price and also have European breads. Also World Market carries a variety of German foods and the prices are still high, but way better than at Continental Deli and I never saw anything past the expiration date. I bought the same German Pumpernickel there and it was always fresh.
Ausgezeichnet! Best German deli in Denver..
This deli is my lifeline back home. The meets, cheeses, breads, and wide variety of other products (mustard, jams, magazines, chocolates, etc.) are wonderful. The meats are made locally and are fresh and delicious. They carry a wide variety of cheeses and are very knowledgable if you need a recommendation. Kids usually get a little treat, which is just like at the meat market in Germany. If you are looking for anything that's German, Swiss, or Austrian give them a try. They even carry the hard to find things like Quark and Herring filets. The entire staff is friendly and you may even practice your German if you feel like it.
They also have a small selection of lunch snacks (brats, salads, etc.)
My vote: Sehr gut!
Best German Food/Experience I've ever had. Best German Potato Salad I've ever had! Everything is so fresh and they have everything you need for a quick and easy dinner. I always bring my kids in because they get a free all natural hot dog from the showcase, which they love to just eat cold. I would highly recommend this German store to anyone who appreciates good all natural food and a exceptional European experience.
