In Short – This store's roots have been firmly independent from the day it opened in 1987. The bulk of the stock is mainstream, but there's something of everything. The store boasts to have the largest new CD catalog in the state, including more than 15,000 used CDs. Satellite store Twist & Shout Underground also boasts 20,000-plus pieces of vinyl, as well as new and used turntables. Prices are average, but the experience is an unequaled bonus. –
Overall a good record store

Twist and Shout is usually my second choice for music in town (first is Second Spin on Colorado Blvd.). Overall this store has a lot of hard to find stuff, especially if you are into oldies or rare LPs and imports by contemporary bands. They also have a great selection of music paraphernalia. However, their selection of stuff from the 80s and 90s, especially some of the more obscure alternative bands, is very limited. I've been in there several times looking for music from about a dozen artists within this time period and left with nothing; they didn't even have there more popular albums. So this place is good, especially when looking for stuff that isn't too hard to find at other record stores, but for the more music savvy person, this store isn't the best in town.
- Pros: Friendly staff, wide variety of products, oldie selection
- Cons: Selection of everything else except oldies and new music
great selection, but not my fave...

first things first - this store really does have a great selection. however, it does come at a price. new CD's are pretty expensive, but you will find some decent prices on used discs. personally, i'm a vinyl guy, and this is where i find t&s a bit lacking. the selection of new vinyl is fair, and priced on par with other stores in town. they also have an expansive selection of used vinyl, but unfortunately it is WAY overpriced. so if used vinyl is your bag, definitely check out wax trax or black & read first. also, most of the employees are incredibly snooty. last time i was there, i dropped about $70 and was treated like garbage by the hipster behind the counter. once again - go to the previously mentioned stores if you want to feel like your business is appreciated. also, the word from friends is that you do NOT want to sell your used LP's and CD's here, as they pay less than other used stores in town.
pros - great selection, reasonably priced used CD's, free parking in garage
cons - used vinyl is way too expensive, snooty employees,
greatest place on earth
