Denver >Fontana Sushi
My boyfriend and I went here one weekend afternoon for some sushi and to utilize their free wireless internet to get a few hours of work done. The wireless internet was the best part about the place. The sushi was absolutely terrible tasting. We did not eat most of our meal because of just how plain awful it tasted. The woman recommended certain rolls because the fish was 'so fresh' but they were incredibly old and fishy. I would absolutely never return here again.
Highly Recommended. We call it "Neighborhood Sushi" because it's there, and it's a staple, and it doesn't break your wallet as much as some of the other establishments I like more.
Fontana Sushi is awesome. I totally dig Fontana. I've always had really great service here...not to mention their "happy hour" pricing, which is $1 sushi...everyday!! Can't beat that!

When I lived near Wash Park, I ate here quite often. My first indication that something was amiss was when my then-boyfriend and I ordered in the restaurant and one of the rolls came "garnished" with a giant HAIR. We sent it back, of course, but we figured that accidents happen.
The second (and last) time something was amiss, I ordered delivery. Everything looked just fine, and I ate my food, only to feel something caught in my tooth after. I kid you not, there was ANOTHER giant hair, this time caught in my tooth!!
Not long after, I saw a report on one of the Denver news stations that discussed the restaurants with the most health code violations. Fontana was either number two or three, right below the Crazy Asian on Downing, for such tasty violations as not storing food properly and insects. The sad thing was that this wasn't the first (or second) time Fontana had been on the bad side of the health inspectors. This was at least four years ago, and I've not been back.
Seriously, avoid this place.
Not what I expected. So its very easy to get bad sushi, but when walk in to see a nice well set up establishment your worries tend to fade. That however was not the case however, when you find yourself getting up multiple times to request something from a waitress who neglects to check on paying customers. Fresh rice? Probably not. Fresh fish? Maybe, but a flat taste and lack of size is what you'll get. I've been a sushi fan for some time now and I can honestly say for the money spent, you sure don't get what you paid for. This was a huge waist
2nd Rate. I've eaten Fontana Sushi three times (once delivered), and each time was disappointed for one reason or another: a pedestrian selection of hand rolls (at best); food presentation & freshness below average; courtesty and professionalism often absent; the restaurant in dire need of redecorating. With so many other choices available including Sushi Den, Go Fish, Sushi Sasa, and Sushi Hai - each superior to Fontana Sushi in every category except maybe price - I have no reason to ever go back.
Could not even finish my meal. I bought 3 different rolls and they were all dry and tasted horrible. The have got to get fresh fish & rice. Signature sauces would be great instead of dry sushi, not everyone like just soy sauce.
Horrible Experience at Fontana Sushi. We placed an order for delivery for some pretty generic rolls last week... all of them tasted a bit off, and when we called to request a refund and/or to return our order. We were quickly turned away by both the person that answered the phone, and the manager, both insisting that "our taste was bad" and that we "didn't know good taste." We were offered no refund, or recourse for the $40 we wasted, and subsequently tossed into the garbage disposal. Sorry- I eat Japanese food 3x/week and have been for the past decade, probably spent over 6 weeks in Japan in recent years, and, well, consider myself pretty qualified to determine if Japanese food tastes ok. I found the food at Fontana gross, and the service simply unacceptable. Not only do I not recommend this place, but I'll be sure to share my bad experience with everyone I know... Thanks!
This is what I know.... So, I have never been to Fontana on Alameda, but, I have been going to the Fontana in Littleton and I LOVE IT!!! My brother and I have been going every week now for about 7 months!! We love the fact that we can get $1 pieces of sushi that are really fresh and yummy, just down the street! My brother has had sushi in different states and he ranks them as his #3! The staff are wonderful and remember what kind of drinks and side items we like, plus they make up new rolls for us to try! I LOVE THEM!!! Its just across the street from South-West Plaza!!!
Across the board, this place is LOW QUALITY. Spend an extra 50 cents a roll and go get the good stuff!.
Fontana Sushi is awful. The rice was old tasting and not soft and easy to eat like other sushi.
They use imitation crab!!!!! YUCK. $4 for a California Roll with fake crab- go to John Holly for 50 more cents you get high quality REAL crab.
The shrimp was tasteless and the Soba noodles were disgusting- seriously- we had 8 people eating and no one ate them- everyone put a little on their plates and we all agreed they weren't bad- they were disgusting. I bought $100 of food for my family and a family we were having over for dinner. I should not have tried this place for as much as I spent. We were all very disappointed- they can't even cook decent sushi rice?!
I called and expressed my disappointment and he said he was sorry he couldn't make me happy and that most places charge $8 for a California Roll. I informed him that his competitors charge a mere 50 cents more for real, good quality crab with melt in your mouth sushi rice. Seriously it hurts to give them $100 for crappy, crappy, low quality food. I could have yummy, high quality food for the same amount of money from John Holly. Live and learn and you get to learn w/o the pain of ordering from Fontana since I have spent this time to write this out. My loss is your gain.
