Editorial Review for Bang! – by Ephraim Mallery
In Short
Groups sip lemonade on the cozy patio while they wait for a table--this restaurant doesn't accept reservations and there's usually a wait. Inside, colorful abstracts from local artists adorn turquoise-colored walls. Home-style dishes range from juicy, herb-roasted chicken with a mound of mashed potatoes to crusty, fried catfish with crisp hush puppies. The tender, well-marbled rib eye drips with meat flavor, while peppered shrimp with mango-habanero salsa is cool and spicy.

Insider Tips
What to DrinkAlthough pairing meat loaf with wine isn't commonplace, Bang! does offer a decent list of wine selections.
ParkingThere are a couple spots behind the restaurant accessible through the alley, otherwise, you'll have to struggle with the often-crowded street spots.

The meatloaf and salmon with wasabi rice are both very good. The prices have gone up steadily over the years to the point that it's become a questionable choice. The tables are too close together and the place is too loud to have a pleasant evening. It's a shame they compromise where they shouldn't.
Pros: Try the salmon - can't miss!
Cons: Too loud, crowded and expensive

We were actually headed to Sushi Hai, but they had closed. Wandered past (the restaurant whose name set's off CitySearch's inappropriate word filter) and it said "Open". After finding our way down the alley to the front (back) door, we saw they looked to be closing. Someone came to the front, and I asked if they were still open and he said, "yes." Then a server came by to seat us. She curtly told us, "We're only open til 10." I told her we'd hurry. I thought, "Well, this won't be pleasant." From there, everything was WONDERFUL. Our actual server (not the curt girl) waited on us like we were her first table of the evening. Even went through the specials. We had the Herbed Fries and Corn Chowder to start, and they both were scented with sage, which made me think of Thanksgiving. My partner and I both had the Pork Loin with Corn Pudding and Grilled Asparagus as a main course. At one point, my partner said, "I'm going to stop talking now so I can shovel more in." It was excellent. And we never felt rushed or disdained for coming in so close to closing. Now, I'm not recommending everyone stampede in at closing time, I'm just illustrating that if this is the class of service and level of tasty food we get as they're trying to go home, it must be stellar when they're expecting people. It has been added to our list of favorites. I think our server's name was Lois, if she ever happens to read this, I want her to know the she and the remaining kitchen staff made a quickie meal into a memorable experience.
Pros: Delicious food. Attentive Service.
Cons: Finding the entrance was quirky
