Took 10 North Denver Italian ladies to lunch....the food was terrible, extremely small portions, way over priced. Someone needs to teach the cook how to cook true Italian food!!!!! Everyone extremely disappointed!!
patsy's is better. Went there tonight 12/16. Place was dirty, portions small and the Chianti was from California! My veal parmigiano was dry as well as the sauce was dry. Pretty tasteless. My dining partner had the eggplant parmiagiano and the portion was appetizer size and did not taste like the cook really cared. The Chiati wine was a 2010 and was from some unknown county in California and needed to be aged as it really had no Italian Chianti taste. This restaurant has seen its day and does not have good food and is kind of dumpy.
Good stuff!. good atmosphere. good choices. good food. good service. good price
Vintage Italian place with pretty good food. We dined there with a few friends the other night before a play. It is definitely old-school and looks like it hasn't been updated in years, but it gives the place some charm. The service was friendly but very slow and like most Denver restaurants, the wait staff are young ski bum types that lack culinary knowledge. The food was decent but no bells and whistles. If you are looking for average Italian food at a very good price, go there.
USED TO BE GREAT. We used to eat at gaetanos almost weekly. We went there again last evening and for the 3rd time, the food was terrible, the cosmos were terrible, the salad was warm and limp, the bread was dry, almost to the stale stage...WHAT HAS HAPPENED ??? Anyone who has lived in Denver for any length of time, knows Gaetano's...where did the old yummy Italian go?? I had lasagna which was a runny mess. it had a huge thick layer of mozz cheese and runny salty hamburger...I guess..sauce..I wasn't even certain it was lasagna...I am so disappointed...almost angry that I will not go back ...whoever has Gaetano's now will not be in business long...We Denverites want our old Gaetano's back...by the way, bring back the bartender too...where did he go?? sorry but I will have to resort to Paliachis or Olive Garden...Paliachis has decent food but very rude hostesses and waiters Olive Garden is a busy place...guess that's the place to be...so sorry but I won't waste my money on Gaetano's again.....unless I read in the news..."Under new Management" then I might give it a go...not before.
great food. Thank you for a relaxing delightful evening of great food and drinks. We love to try new restaurants and yours was great.
not that good.
I'm sorry to say this but the food here, like most Italian in Denver and anyplace between the Hudson and San Fran, is just bad!
The preparation of the food is just plain wrong for reasons I don't have time to explain and the red sauce was so salty it was like a bad chinese take-out joint.
My eggplant parm was breaded (not bad, maybe a little heavy...) and just placed on a thin layer of sauce with melted mozzi across the top. That was it...
There was no sauce on the eggplant and certainly no "parmesan", after which the dish is named.
Rather than being a "homogenous" dish, it was more like eating eggplant cutlets, lightly topped with cheese and dipped in insanely salted tomatoe sauce. Bad.
You can't hide low quality tomatoes with salt/heavy seasoning, which is exactly what they tried. A good restaurant would be using San Marzano tomatoes which need little "help"! The natural flavor is all that's needed!!
spaghetti-retro: a trip back in time. We had a fun lunch for two. The food was great for the price and the waitress was helpful with the menu
bad sevice. i do not recomed this restaranto any one because the have to have the worst custemer sevise any where in denver
Great service and food!. While some of the reviews have striking points, overall they seem quite incompetent( the negative ones at least). For people who make such bold statements about a good place, they seem to be forgetting how credibility goes out the window when their reviews are shrouded by spelling and grammer errors. For christ's sake if you're going to be so critical, at least spell your f!@king s*#t right!
