Denver >Billy's Inn
Love, love, love the burgers. The burgers here are the best! It's probably that they use a lot of butter on the bun, but mmm! Also a great place to eat on the patio, even when it's hot. They've got mist-ers to keep you cool.
A welcome addition to the neighborhood.
Living right around the corner I'm so happy that someone stepped in and fixed up Billy's. It's a great neighborhood spot with friendly staff and friendly patrons.
My one complaint is the food prices seem to be a lot higher than equivalent bars. $8.45 for 7 tiny little wings is ridiculous, it doesn't even qualify as an app. My friends won't even join me there for wing night anymore.
New and improved. I have to admit that I thought this place would be a dump, even after I was told it had been totally overhauled. But I was wrong- it's a cute little spot with a decent little menu, including drinks and wine. I would say it has a bit of an identity issue- I'm not sure if it's supposed to be a bar with food, or a restaurant with a bar. The food is good if a tad overpriced and leans towards Mexican and burgers. I like the seafood options and had very good mahi and shrimp tacos, which are sold a la carte. I hope to go back and try a mojito and I thought the wine list was pretty ambitious for such a small place. The bathroom is a nightmare, though, in terms of size and whatever you do, don't sit on the patio when it's cold out. They blast it with heat to the point that you feel like you're on the inside of a hair dryer!
Great Place - Bad GM.
I love the location as it is in the "hood" and the renovation is great.
The only thing I would say is keep your distance from "General Manager Christopher". He may seat you when you arrive and he is all about turning tables. We had a large group reserve a table (seats 12) for my wife's 40th bday. Billy's is first come first serve and I understand that. I arrived 15 min early to try and get a table near the reserved table because we had about 20 people for dinner. I was told - "sir, you're going to have to move". Turned out OK in that we got the table but this guy is a total clown and I spent the evening trying to not make him spread his bad vibe...
The staff is great including the servers and bartenders. The bad vibe from Christopher didn't prevent us from having fun. Go to Billy's, but tell Mr. Manager to back off and word travels fast. I have told the party of 20 to boycott Billy's until he is removed or has a serious talking to.
Lousy service. Living close by I have been there a quite few times some years back in the "dive" days and always saw it as the typical neighborhood bar. Now sporting a new look, menu, and clientele I decided to give it a try. My first experience, albeit during the breakfast round, was not a good one. For starters there were 5 tables after my arrival, some were eating others had drinks, seemingly very lax. It took 7 minutes to be acknowledged. We (my group of 2) ordered our drinks and one of them was wrong. I had to flag down someone to correct. They ran out of coffee leaving me and other waiting, c'mon this should be a Sunday morning priority and there only 5 tables! Our food came in reasonable time but one order was botched and had to be returned. When it came back correct almost immediately we were asked if we needed anything else, all the time one of the wait staff was engaging us in conversation to quell the awkward moment, it was never noticed we had no flatware, so our answer was yes! Service & organization are poor.
billy's is back.
Billy's Inn has been on the corner of lowell blvd and 44th for decades. my father used to drink there in the 1940's when he attended regis. it has reopened mainly as a eatery with great cocktails. not a dive as before.
i have eaten there on several occasions and the service and food have been outstanding. try the wings,
onion rings or the great deviled egg starters. the main course choices include some sandwiches (haven't tried them yet) great hamburgers but the tacos steal the show. they come ala carte and come out in these great taco holders. i have tried the chicken, deep fried fish, but my favorite (and most costly) are the the lobster ones. Cocktails and beer are in abundance. My favorite is the margarita that is part cosmopolitan.
Only bad thing is the bathrooms are no bigger than a closet. But the photos from the 1960's Billys are a hoot while you visit the W C. I just pretend i am back with my dad in the 40's between classes.
service???. Bad service! walked in and ordered a beer and when finished it took 10 min to get the bartenders attention to get another. No wonder the place is empty at peak hours.
my kinda of place!. I recently went to Billy's although I usually hate "trendy" places-I was really happy I did! Service was great although the staff seeemed to be on top of us ( small sections for seasoned servers). It is slightly overpriced but still cheaper than alot of other places in the Highlands so that doesn't bother me at all. Food is awesome and they have really inventive drinks.
This restaurant was recommended to us from some neighbors from the hood. We tried it out, and while I wouldn't say it was terrible. I definitely felt a little ripped off. The menu is a little all over the place. For example, ONE taco is $3.25, and it tastes like a taco from Rubios. The only difference at Rubios the taco is $2 and has guacamole. Be careful too, if you want 1/2 cup of rice, that is $1.50, and if you want 1/2cup of beans, that ALSO is $1.50. The drinks were similarly overpriced. Anywhere you have to pay $4 for an Buttweiser product, you have to wonder how effectively the management is controlling costs.
It wasn't bad, but I would say you'd get a better deal at any of the other very many, very good neighborhood dives.
EXCELLENT Service!!!. We live right around the corner from Billy's Inn and were very happy to see it renovated! We went in for the first time a couple of weeks ago and have been back several times. The service is OUTSTANDING and the food is very good as well. It is a little loud, but the atmosphere is still very fun and inviting. Great bar for the neighborhood!
