Two Very Disappointed Little Girls.
So very sad! I called at 9am this morning to ask if they accepted reservations for the famous tour. I was told sourly by the lady on duty that "No, only groups of 10+ could make reservations, but our 11:30am tour is wide open, come on down".
We traveled 45 minutes, arrived at 11:15, only to be told, "oh-so sorry, a bunch of groups called after you and made reservations. The next open tour is at 1230, would you like to get on the list?" Why couldn't we have 'gotten on the list' when I called ahead at 9am? The lady at the counter gave me a very weak excuse about having to turn away people if they accepted regular reservations, and she seemed to think the current system of discrimination to be fair and reasonable. Then, on top of it, she ushered in a group of six immediately after us! How were they able to 'make a reservation' for only six or else get in on a 'full' tour?
I left with a very disappointed 2 and 6 year old in tow. We all felt feel incredibly let down, and I feel that we are owed the $10 I wasted in gas! With the current system, it is impossible to bring small children - unless your kids can wait in a candy factory an hour or more. Either you allow everybody to make reservations, or not at all. There is no other fair solution.
I am a Denver native of 40 years, and this was to be my very first visit to Hammond's. I cringe now to think how many out-of-state friends I have directed there as 'something fun to do'. Be assured that will stop!!!
Great local family business!. I work as an activities coordinator for a long term care center in the Denver area. Free activities are a rarity and are usually free for a reason HOWEVER; Hammonds Candies is a very interesting and fun tour! I brought a group of our residents up for the last tour of the day on a Friday and Hammonds did not disappoint. Not only did they help our residents in wheel chairs, our residents who are hard of hearing and our staff but, they gave one of our residents a piece of candy, representative of a local sports team he loves, for free weeks before it was officially due for release! They were friendly, helpful, and genuinely caring. I know we will be going back! Please support this local treasure!
Great Tour. This is such a fun tour, and place to go. Watching everything by hand is AMAZING. If you have never seen candy being made, this is the place. My entire family enjoyed the overall tour and people that makes Hammond's great. A+++
