Waste of a good time. I've had a better time waiting in line at the DMV. The bartenders seem to be put out by serving you a drink unless you're a local that spends their days and nights at their bar paying their rent. I dropped over a bill at one bartender and still never managed to get so much as a smile or a thank you for my patronange. I've been to higher class establishments in New York City that treat their customers with more courtesy than this dive. The homeless people outside the entrance should have been my first clue that this place was bad news. The bartenders were awful, the bathrooms are DISGUSTING and there is absolutely no patronage that would even make me consider returning. Sorry Charlie, you fail.
What are you's talking about???It's nasty!!!. Charlie's is the biggest joke of a gay bar I've ever been in!Ever since the smoking ban went into effect,it's been a joke.I used to get hit on left and right in that place, now, nothing! The place is gross, the building, the bathrooms, the people,it's sick!Anyone that says that place is one of the best gay bars in Denver is definatly on something not good! That place is soooooooooo gross, that they need to tear the place down, and rebuild completely!Sometimes there bathrooms smell worse than a sewage canal!:(:(:(
worst bar in denver period!. i have been a regular at this bar for 5 years and it keeps going down hill ever since wayne passed away. this new manager john apparently does not care about the customers. the roof still has leaks, the place seems like it has not been cleaned since clinton was president. i would not be suprised half of the std's in denver come from the toilet seats in this place. the drinks are weak and always taste different even if i order the same thing. but despite all that i still was a regular because of the "club" music dj but he was not there the last 2 nights and the bartender said he was no longer working there. if anyone knows what club he went to let this board know. i will never return to this bar and urge everyone else to avoid this like the plague (which you just may get if you do go) see you all at the compound and tracks.
Not very clean or attentive.
This was our 4th stop on a bar crawl and if it werent for the nastiest bar in Denver being among the first 3 (Broadway's), this would have got the vote.
I think they must have told everyone at a staff meeting to write a good review because I read the other reviews and the only one that is close to being right is the guy who hated the place. Does the owners think that a puddle of urine in the bathrooms is somehow sexy or that stall doors are a luxury? Drinks were weak weak weak, they use those measure shot top things to ensure you get only a thimble full. And then charge like you are in New York. Everything from the pool felt to the swamp bathrooms to the plastic shack that passes for a smoking patio is poorly taken care of. I know this is supposed to be a Denver legend, but maybe its time this old worn out horse was put out to pasture.
Had A blast... Cant Wait till Dec.... Hey to the staff of Charlies... Love you All Great bar Dont change a thing!!! Went there Two Night when i was in denver... let me tell ya tim the bar tender is HOT. See you all be For xmas
The Best Gay Bar in Denver.
With two dance floors, a couple of bars, and the distinction of being a g@y cowboy bar, Charlie's is nearing the status of a Denver landmark. The staff and customers are friendly and outgoing, and its typical to find an interesting conversation every visit. Charlie's scene can be considered the perfect level for a g@y bar: the clientele are inveterate partiers, meaning the flow of alcohol and possibly other substances is ample, though they are not so decadent that the night devolves into a Bacchinalia. Furthermore, the place is big enough that the feuding cliques and sub-scenes that plague many g@y bars are largely absent.
The drinks are reasonable in strength and price, though it often depends on who's doing the pour. The line-dancing and g@y cowboys do not come off as ironic as one might expect, and everyone - g@y, straight, cowboy or city-slicker seems there for one reason: to have a good time. Charlie's is an excellent bar for someone who wants to party but avoid the competitiveness, pretense, and drama of normal clubs.
great neighborhood country gay bar. I love the friendliness of the staff. It is so much fun on thursdays to do a little country dancing after drinking at JR's, and also their is a 90s/techno/hip hop side too. It is a good mix of people for both sides. They have karaoke also on different nights. It is 1/2 price night as well. The country dj's sometimes keep the music too slow but just put in requests and that usually helps. Parking lot is right next to bar and there is a huge smoking patio. Avoid the bathrooms, really dirty!
Editorial Review by Ephraim Mallery. With two dance floors and an energetic crowd, this Colfax gay bar often packs the house.
Charlies is gross. Charlies has got to be the dirtiest bar in Denver. The restrooms are filthy and never have paper towels so most people don't bother to wash thier hands. After using the bathroom and not washing thier hands they help themselves to some stale popcorn in the machine that is filthy dirty. It's a wonder no one has become sick there. Now they have tarps inside on the ceiling that look like IV bags to catch all of the leaks in the ceiling. You have to duck your head so you don't run into the dirty hoses catching the leaks when you head to the bar. The staff is rude especially at the front door. I would highly recommend NOT visiting this disgusting bar - stick with JR's (nice, friendly, clean and fun)
Only Game In Town If You're Cowboy. Its okay. Sometimes the DJs really stink. I wonder if they ever listen to country music. And why can't they clean the damn restrooms?? They are dirty, they stink and there are usually no paper towels after 10:30 or so. And the popcorn....jeezzz. If its less then a week old, then you're in luck.
