Moved across the street! New Owners New attitude!.
I remember the guys from across the street. They definitely had their moments, but Video One has been transformed by the new owners. I can't believe this review thing still has stuff posted from two
years ago. None of those people work there anymore.
I have been at video one for about 4 years, since I started college, and boy am I glad to find a place that has all the weird movies my teachers want me to see.
When the new owners bought it they really cleaned house, they reorganized the whole store into genres instead of the crazy system they used to have with these terrible books, and numbers and it was a nightmare. But I love how the place has turned out, and the people who own it are so sweet. They are the only ones who work there these days, real mom and pop.
Honestly, I am an incredibly happy with Video One. I would recommend them to anyone. Hang in there Jeff! Capitol Hill needs you!…
neighborhood service and relationship. i've rented from these from over a decade. i love'em. saves me from patronizing the big box rental chain. these guys offer great service. they care that you come there. they can offer insights into movies and they carry selections of offbeat movies. super selection of international movies. small selection of kids movies.…
Ever Tried Running a Business on Colfax?.
Well, I guess I'll begin by introducing myself. My name is Jason, and I've worked at Video One for five years now (almost to the day, in fact). We really appreciate all the positive reviews, so
thanks a lot, guys and gals. However, the reason I'm writing now is to respond to all the D-bags who feel they've gotta go all internet-warrior on us.
First, our membership requirements are for our protection. Yes, protection from you. If they seem unreasonable, allow me to explain their neccessity: We're running a business on **Colfax** Avenue. Not only that, but a business that operates by renting inventory that we'd really like to have returned. Sorry, but after twenty-five years, we've learned our lessons the hard way.
Now, it is true that we begin a campaign of bitter, malicious harrassment against the punctuality-impaired. Oh, wait, what am I talking about?! Every day, we print a list of people whose movies are more than three days late. Assuming you may have simply forgotten, we'll issue friendly phone calls to remind you. But after about ten days, we figure that yes, you probably have no intention of returning our movies. That sort of treachery really does rub us wrong, so the calls will get less and less friendly with each passing day. Keep in mind, though, we do charge late fees, so when we call, it really is just to save you money. So don't get all butt-hurt, yeah?
Now, if you've got a movie that is of particular importance to us, and it becomes apparent that you're trying to snake us, then yes, I might just have to come and get it back. Don't worry, I won't hurt you. Hell, I should charge you the delivery fee (Oh, yeah, we deliver movies, too!) but I won't. I just want the freakin' movie back! Thankfully, I don't have to do that very often, and I'm pretty sure I know who wrote in whining about my complimentary pickup service. He was a tool.
It ain't the pay that keeps us here; we'd really love to cheer you up with a good movie. So stop by some time!…
Video One. I never usually do this, but I have had such a negative experience with Video One that I wanted to share it. To start off, their customer service is abysmal and the organization of their store is so bad that it is almost impossible to find a movie. If you do ask for help you end up waiting for 10 minutes only to be treated rudely. However, if you do find a movie to rent and pay their ridiculous fees that is when the real fun begins. If you keep your video, even a few days past the due date, you will recieve call after call about returning it--all they while being charged ludicrous late fees. I failed to return a dvd for 4 days and was suprised to find an employee AT MY HOUSE to collect the movie. WTF? I would like to support local business, but I will return to Blockbuster from now own. DO NOT RENT FROM THESE GUYS.…
the best video store ever, the best video store clerks ever.
i've been renting from video one for a few years now. sadly the video store business is dying due to net-flix, but net-flix will never be as great as video one. why? jason and bobby. these two guys
put together have an endless flow of knowledge about film, and they both tend to have opposite tastes in film which is good. jason is into the big budget action flicks, samurai and kung-fu films, british gangster films, comedies of all sorts, etc. jason is probably the most popular video store clerk here for being loud, telling you if he thinks you movie s*cks (even when it really doesn't), and for his crazy stories. oh yeah, he talks about his car... a lot. bobby on the other hand is my favorite. his film knowledge of foreign, independent, cult, drama, horror, disturbing art films far surpasses that of anyone i've ever met.
the selection is pretty amazing for a small city like denver. the employee's picks are a must to stop and take a look at. you really will find some great never-heard of rare stuff there. upstairs is all vhs, which has been getting sold off slowly over the last year or two, but they still have all the good movies up there with a not for sale sticker on them. downstairs, the boom boom room. i never really go down there, but there is a dedicated customer base just for that floor alone.
and from other reviews that i have read about the customer service being terrible, you have to remember one thing... this is an independent business downtown, you're not going to get the "customer is always right" bulls**t treatment that you might get at blockbuster. to put it on bobby's words: "it's mostly over-priveledged white women who come in and demand to have their a**es licked by the servants behind the counter." from what i've heard from other friends of mine that rent there though, they feel the same way i do and that the service is beyond exceptional and these two really ill make your movie rental experience as fun and exciting as i could be.…
