My daughter has been going to CMCD since she was born. Over the past year every time I call to schedule an appointment I can never get through to a human. I’m forced to leave a voicemail and wait hours, sometimes a day, to receive a call back. Very frustrating! The front desk staff is rude and unprofessional. It was something I was willing to overlook because we love our pediatrician, Dr. Todd. However, I hate not being able to speak to an actual person when requesting appointments. You don’t exactly want to leave a message and wait for a call back when you have a sick kid. Therefore, I’ve found another pediatrician. When I called to schedule an appointment with our new doctor the office staff actually picked up the phone when I called. Imagine that!
Rude, Incompetent Staff + Avg Doctors = Waste of Time.
Avoid this place, at all costs (if I could rate it zero stars, I would). I've long thought that the front desk staff and nurses were rude, but after listening to the way they recently treated a "new patient", I was appalled enough to speak up. The nurse Betsy told the mother of two on the day of her newborn's 1st week appointment to turn around "and go to another clinic" simply because she was too lazy to find the childrens' records or have someone re-enter them. It was sad, the lady politely asked if someone else could help and this Betsy (who could use a shot of the "people skills" vaccine) tells her that she's the end of the line and to go elsewhere.
The "new computerized medical records system" may be nice, but they have not trained the staff in how to use it because EVERY time I take my children there, there is a mix-up with my kids' vital records and another parent is waiting for the same to be resolved.
CMC has doctors that are okay at best, so dealing with its front end staff and nurses that treat every child like its begging for spare change in the street, is simply not worth it. I recommended a different practice for that lady (turns out she was an exec recently relocated to Denver whose insurance allowed her to go anywhere) and now am moving my children and nephews as soon as possible.
Also, watch this place for germs... I have yet to see their staff or nurses wash their hands, use hand-sanitizer or wear gloves at the appropriate times. Sickening.
New computerized medical records = less wait time.
CMC is a great practice, and while the waits used to be bad before they implemented their new computerized medical records system, the practice is now much more on schedule. With the last 2 appts. I've had for my children, we were called back exactly at our appointment time, and the wait times in the exam room weren't as long as before either.
I agree with a previous review about the front desk having some rude employees, but that happens at 9 out of 10 Dr.s offices.
Some of the Medical Assistants could also work on their bedside manner, especially when coming into an exam room to administer shots. They storm the room without much communication other than barking out orders and calling you "Mom" or "Dad", and telling you to get away from the exam table.
Looong waits for good doctors.
We've taken all of our kids here since birth because we like the doctors. But time and time again we've found ourselves sitting in a waiting room, waiting and waiting for the doctor or nurse, saying "we should switch."
Here is how their appointments work:
1) Arrive and sign in. Make sure you are not more than 15m late because they have a strict policy on this and *will* cancel your appointment. This is especially ironic since you are going to be waiting on them for a lot longer than 15m.
2) Settle in for the first of many waits. Don't expect to be called in within 15m of your appointment (punctuality is a one-way street here). Enjoy this wait, though, because at least you are in the waiting room where there are toys and a fish tank to keep your kids from going crazy.
3) Get called into an exam room. If you are lucky, one of the (usually very nice) nurses will take care of the preliminaries right away. If you are not lucky, try to keep your kids from starting to fuss while you wait for the nurse.
4) Now that the nurse has left, hunker down in the claustrophobic exam room for what is likely to be the longest (but not most painful, see #5) wait, this time for the doctor. This could be the longest 20m of your life, especially if you have more than one kid with you, since the diversions in the exam rooms are very limited. Wish you had brought some crayons, or a snack.
5) After the doctor leaves, wait for the nurse to come back and take care of whatever loose ends there are. This could also be 20m, and will feel twice as long as #4 since now the appointment feels "over" but yet here you are still waiting, with your kids climbing the walls.
I'm not kidding about the waits, by the way. This is really what it is like. You will spend 7-10m of wait time for each 1m of nurse/doctor time. It's up to you to decide whether any doctor is worth it.
We've stopped recommending the practice to others.
Horrible Front Desk Service.
I was so excited to find a pediatrician's office so close to my home, and very anxious to meet with the doctor before our baby was born. Unfortunately, I never got that far.
I called a month ahead of time to schedule a prenatal appointment and had to leave a message. After not hearing back for over 24 hours, I called and left another message. I finally received a call back. Her attitude was ok a the time, but she was very unorganized. She had to call me back 3 times and told me to be there at noon.
A month passed, I showed up at noon for my appointment. None of the receptionists knew who I was, or why I was there. The woman I spoke to came out of the back, told me I wasn't supposed to be there until 1pm, because "that is when the doctors take their lunchtime." I told her she told me noon when we spoke on the phone. She then became rude. I told her to forget it, I really don't want to bring my child here if we can't even get the prenatal appointment scheduled correctly.
Not once did she apologize, she just gave me an attitude and said, "well that's fine with us."
It is very unfortunate that she feels like treating a potential new patient that way is acceptable. If she had been a little nicer about it, I would have returned in an hour. I will not return, and I will not refer anyone I know to their office.
I have read the other reviews and see that parents love the doctors there, it is unfortunate I didn't even get passed the clutter and attitude at the front desk.
Love Dr. Jay and CMC. We, and our kids, love Dr. Jay Markson and CMC. Jay is a low-key, humble, practical, friendly, nice guy and very competent doctor who makes us and our children feel calm and cared for. He helps us sort out the hype from the reality on childcare and childraising issues, and helps parents make their own informed decisions without passing judgment or talking down. Certainly I can tell if Dr. Jay felt strongly about a particular path, he would tell us. But given that nothing is black and white, he gives both facts and opinions that help us come to decisions that are right for us as a family. Plus his staff is organized - they don't seem to make mistakes or be confused like other doctors offices I've visited - records seem to be well-kept and organized. That is important, because I've seen poorly run offices that leave me not confident in their competence.
What You're Looking For!. A truely fabulous office with truely fabulous doctors. Dr Jay Markson is exactly what I was looking for in a pediatrician. He reminds me of what doctors used to be (and should be.) He takes his time with my children to carefully look into all symptoms, and seems to use his own intuition when trying to problem solve, rather than just matching a list of symptoms with a list of possible diagnoses. Because of this, he has always been right on when it comes to figuring out what is going on with my kids, and the best option to remedy. In a time when society is grossly overmedicated, Dr. Jay Markson does not jump to give prescriptions, but instead uses caution and prudence with each individual situation. When I asked him if my children should be taking vitamins, he told me to give them healthy foods containing vitamins instead. He has a very pleasant easy going demeanor that makes my children feel very comfortable with him. The waiting room is big, bright, clean, and well separated so that well children do not play around sick children. The staff is friendly, pleasant, and helpful. I've spoken to the nurses dozens of times, and they are quick, helpful, knolegable, and informative. We would never go anywhere else, and are thankful to have found such an amazing team of doctors, nurses, and staff! My husband and I recommend Dr. Jay Markson and Children's Medical Center to all of our friends and family who are looking for a truely high quality pediatrician.
Excellent care!. Dr. Jay Markson is our primary doctor and he is excellent! When we've seen other doctors in the practice we have been equally impressed too. They are not only concerned with the medical treatment of my children but also their development.
