Excellent food. I have never had ethiopian food before, but Abyssinia's food was excellent. I took a group of 15 people, and we were treated very well. Our server talked us through the menu, introduced some ethiopian customs, and treated us to some traditional coffee at the end of the meal. Our whole group was amazed on how good the food was. The price was also reasonable. Many of us are planning on going back soon.…
Best Etheopian anywhere..
I have eaten Ethiopian food everywhere this side of Ethiopia, and I think Abyssinia is the best. The Injera (Ethiopian flat bread, kind of a cross between a pancake and sourdough bread) is the
absolute tastiest I have ever had and as you may know, great Injera is the key to any good Ethiopian meal. Light, spongy and just the right amount of that tart sour taste that makes the taste of the bread stand out against the many delicious flavors of the dishes it is served with. Yummy!!!
For the uninitiated, Ethiopian cuisine is usually served "family style" on a large platter which is first covered with a large piece of Injera. There is no silverware, just a generous portion of Injera bread served on the side which is torn up and used as a utensil to wrap up bite size morsels of the dishes being eaten. Eating you food with your fingers is a lot of fun!!We were in Denver for a long weekend from Salt Lake City. We decided to have Ethiopian, because we don't have that at home. We turned to city search for a recommend. The only listing we found was for Queen of Sheba, which is closed until later this month. On the way we saw Abyssinia and decided to give it a try. We we not disappointed. We were greeted warmly and were made to feel at home right away. The place is very clean and the wonderful smells of exotic spices and herbs hang in the air.
We ordered the vegetarian combo and the meat combo and had more than enough for two people. The fit fit, Begue-tibs and the gomen were our favorites, but everything was absolutely delicious. We both ate until it hurt, enjoying every bite.
There is a nice selection of Ethiopian beer and Honey wine as well, we tried both. The honey wine is a beautiful accompaniment to the varied spice and flavors of the food. The beer was very good as well, and you would be well served with either choice.
We plan on eating at Abysisinia every time we come to Denver, or maybe we could convince the owner to move to SLC.…
