Tough to find a new endocrinologist
by new2colorado
Dr Lifschitz is a very nice guy. I do agree however that there i great room for improvement with regard to the courtesy of his staff. And in terms of finding a new endo, I need more than just a nice guy.
When I inquired about the weight I have put on since my thryroid problem began (and subsequent thyroid removal) his advice for me was to eat 400 calories a day - claiming that is the only way the weight would come off. Sadly, he actually has a patient following that advice (so he stated) but it seemed not only UNSAFE advice coming from a licensed medical practitioner ...but rather insane.
And yes, he is an old fashioned doctor, top to bottom. They do not take credit cards there; first time ever at an endo's office that I was required to wear a hospital gown (?), etc. The only patients I saw coming in and out were over 60 so that might be a statement of something as well.
So I am still looking. He may be the perfect doctor for YOU (whomever you are, out there) but the red light went on for me at the "medical advice" offered with regard to a dangerous calorie reduction.
- Pros: Very nice guy; they validate parking
- Cons: old world; rude staff; questionable medical advice
Dr Lifschitz is an old-fashioned doctor....for better or worse
by KirkF
Overall, my son's experience with Dr Lifschitz was positive -- at least during the office visits. He takes his time, asks a lot of questions, and seems to be quite thorough. However...if you want to follow up with him on any topics after you leave the office, you must be a very patient patient! He's not very up-to-date technologically (e.g., no Fax capability, so you can't have previous records or prescription info Faxed, and no email/Web site options). He will call personally with lab results, etc, but you have to be available in the very narrow time window when he makes his calls, which can lead to extended phone tag. On several occasions, I found his staff to be quite rude over the phone. They seem to be irritated that you are calling, they don't volunteer their name, and in one case, I was interrupted 3 times, then hung up on. I eventually changed doctors due to the inconvenience and unfriendly staff.
- Pros: He's attentive...once you get into the exam room.
- Cons: Very low-tech (no Fax) and rude staff
