Total Jerks.
I hate this Guitar Center, in fact, this one in particular has ruined the chain for me, I now find local shops to support, even if I have to pay a little more.
The staff is rude, and a bunch of moron kids that have no idea what they are talking about, and unless your buying a 2000 dollar guitar, they have no interest in dealing with you. I bought a 200 dollar guitar there early this year to mess around with (I own a collection of guitars, I wanted this one to just play around with different sounds), the staff actually said to me "Look, I ain't lookin for this all day", then stopped looking for my guitar.
I also play ukelele, and the staff are @ssholes when it comes to playing anything but guitar. When I bought a new uke there, they just sighed and were very rude to me at the checkout.
I've dropped off instruments to be repaired, since I really don't have the time to do repairs myself, and I've had staff comments such as "do it yourself"
Guitar Center is notorious for having a terrible staff, this store is the mother load of ignorant moronic employees.
I'd go to a local music store and support them, (MusicGoRound is a great one), even buy online. Anything but Guitar Center, at least this one.
Guitar Center in Englewood. My husband and I went to the Guitar Center in Englewood looking for a nice keyboard. The sales people are knowledgable, but we felt like they were trying to make an extra buck off of us. If you are trying to get the best value for your buck, they won't show you that. There was a nice man who was a customer that had a lot of knowledge with the keyboards, and he spent about an hour showing us how to records our stuff and what keyboards that would get the job done. He was a musician who had a lot of knowledge. It's pretty sad when the customer helping you cares more about you than the salesman. They are all young kids. Well, the whole time he was talking to us the sales people (all 6 of them) were getting upset and shaking their heads like they were mad. They were trying to interrupt us several times asking us if we had any questions for them, and of course we didn't. I do not recommend this place to buy anything. They do not work off of commission but they do get a nice bonus off of what they sale.
A humming, beating, vibrating, music mega store..
In Short
Just as the electric guitar started gaining popularity in the '60s, so did this once-modest, now monumental music store chain, which has grown to become the country's largest retailer of musical instruments. The store is packed with merchandise hanging overhead, crowding the aisles and monopolizing the walls. Contrary to its name, it's not just about acoustic and electric guitars; it also serves the needs of keyboardists, drummers and horn players.
Take a lunch: you will be there awhile. Guitar Center most always has a good selection and average prices but its got to be one of the worst places to shop. The sales staffs are kids with little knowledge outside of their chosen instrument, they are hell bent on giving you their unsolicited opinion and they have no customer relations experience at all. Everybodys referred to as "man" and even if you just want a guitar pick, count on a 15-min. wait. Sorry, sorry.
