The Point Athletic Club. After passing the Point several times on Van Gordon, I decided to finally take a look inside to see what they have to offer. I was very pleased with the customer service. It was refreshing to see genuine smiles and hospitality. When they took me around the club on a tour, they explained all of the free classes they had to offer, the swim lessons, the Kid's Sports Camp, a nursery and the basketball leagues. They have many cardio machines, and weight machines. Overall I was very pleased with everything I saw. They have a lot to offer for such reasonable prices. My family and I have now joined and are very happy with everything so far!
I was cautious due to previous reviews!. The Point has been under construction for a good while, however, the renovations being made are very nice. There have been zero issues with billing/contract, but as long as you READ the paperwork you're signing you will be ok. The biggest plus to The Point is the size of the building/number of machines and the hours they are open, you never have to wait to get a machine!
Sneaky billing. The Point and ASF International (the Point's billing service) are very sneaky. Read the fine print before agreeing to a membership. Terrible customer service all around!
Julie is so NOT crazy!. I have belonged to The Point for over 3 years and Julie treats me and everyone else so well and have had nothing but positive experiences. The instructors at The Point are the best in town and have the highest credentials. The staff is awesome and nothing short of helpful. As far as Gary the cleaning guy, it seems cleaner since he's gone. Julie spends alot of time at the gym because she is personally vested in the company and crazy about being in shape. I think maybe you guys just are sour grapes because you can't afford a nice place to workout and are jealous of those of us who can. I'll be a member until that poor old building falls apart!
Great customer service and low fees.
I guess I am a little crazy to keep the rates so low for tennis year round and have the largest selection of classes in a well maintained facility. Most of our equipment is new we keep some of the old pieces because our members like them. The instructors and trainers I hire are the best in town.
Where you workout really does make a difference.
They're trying but eh.... In addition to the crazy manager (she is crazy, I think she's spent too much time in a gym) the equipment is pretty worn and dated. The whole club just has a slum feel to it. Poor lighting, horrible ventilation. Every time I was in the upstairs weight room it was too warm and smelly. They're putting a new face on the outside but I haven't seen any improvements to the interior. Their spin instructors are pitiful. I usually go at night so I don't know if the day staff is more friendly or not. Hard to tell as the front desk staff sit behind a nearly 5' high wall.
The manager Julie is CRAZY. The club itself is ok, not great, but just ok. Sometimes the cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired. About 2 years ago they had a very devoted and good janitor, I think his name was Gary or Jerry and she had him fired. She lied about him to his company and the company fired him. She also promises things to some of the members but doesn't keep her word. I have been a member for 7 years now and to be honest the only reason I stay is because of the inside tennis courts, surely not because of her.
