Too much food that is too heavy and just OK. No spark of freshness or seasonality.
Service friendly and slow, nowhere near gracious.
Really Poor Choice..over priced and not worth it..
My wife and daughter went to Briarwood Inn for Thanksgiving dinner. We all ordered the traditional Thanksgiving dinner. The service was poor at best, the dinner (turkey) was dried out and cold. Our waiter was probably one of the worst. The turkey dinner was $58 each and the price was not indicated on the menu, if I would have known I was paying that much for turkey I would have ordered something different. Truly one of the worst ripoff's of all time.
Enjoy yourself, my wife and I will not be back under any circumstance.
Not so great..
I didn't used to leave any bad reviews, however it seems to me that we should, then perhaps we would stop getting outdated or bad food. I was not at all impressed, these guys not only missed the food revolution, they didn't even know there was one. We were very surprised by the 'oldness' of the place, not only the food but the atmosphere and decor, Briarwood Inn being touted one of the better restaurants in the area. The menu is very old school, '60's style food, kind of heavy and not at all innovative, which it should be expected for the price, 32.00 apiece and coffee was extra, 3.00 a cup, came weak and bland.
We had brunch, we both ordered the prime rib, and were not asked how we would like it, it came well done. Who eats well done prime rib? Default should be medium at most. The potatoes were salty and greasy, and the Benedict was OK, kind of dull though, like it was a mix and had a slice of Canadian bacon direct from the package to the plate, not even heated up. The start of the meal we were served a fruit cup, the melon was cut very close to the rind, some had rind on it. The strawberries green , the raspberries and black berries were good. The kiwi wasn't peeled, didn't try it. A tier plate of pastries was served along with a champagne based drink as well. I didn't try the pastries, I don't eat gluten, my husband ate one and wasn't impressed. I don't think there was much actual 'Chefing' going on in the kitchen, more like just plating up prepackaged and ordered stuff. Also our waiter told me everything but the Monte Cristo was gluten free. WAY wrong, there were crepes and Eggs Benedict.
All and all a let down.
Better Options In The Area. If you are 70 plus years old, this is the place for you. Very dark and outdated, mediocre food and service. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.
So Impressive!. I have been to the Briarwood a few times, always for special occasions. I am normally not the person to write a lot of reviews, but I feel like I have to write about what an incredible experience we had there! We went just last weekend for an anniversary celebration and had such an amazing evening. The service was not only on point, but extremely gracious and professional. They even gave us complimentary flutes of champagne to keep. I felt like they were welcoming us into their home! The food was to die for, and the renovations they are doing are GORGEOUS. I can't wait to go back during the holidays to see all of the decorations, and will surely recommend Briarwood to everyone I know! Thank you for such a memorable experience
disappointed. Food was alright (except the spinach salad), service was horrible. Meal was going well until I came across a dirt clod in my salad. Fine, that happens. The disappointment is in how they handled it. Server said he would go get a manager, then disappeard until 20 minutes later when he brought the entree, asked if I wanted another salad. Eventually the hostess showed up and it was all she could do to offer to comp my meal, or do anything besides say "sorry, this happens." Both the server and hostess made a big deal about their "triple washed spinach." Whatever. Still didn't get the dirt out!! Won't return or recommend, highly overrated.
Don't bother making reservation.
Once we arrived we checked in at the hostess desk; we were told that reservations were running 10 to 15 minutes late. One hour and 15 minutes later we were sat. The waiting area was OVERCROWDED with frustrated potential customers. I love fine dining; however it is not worth it; the resturaunt is in need of new management. They should have turned some reservations away; rather than misleading customers.
I will never go back again. I did however like the chef's food and do disagree with one ofthe previous postings.

Owners need to renovate to maintain expectations.
Seven of us visited the Briarwood for dinner last night. Nice restaurant, but certainly not up to some of the effusive reviews I have read. This is a place badly in need of a head to toe refurbishment. The concept of the restaurant is probably solid: good ambiance, quiet, very well prepared food. The value for the price is not good.
The owners need to close down for a month or so to bring the place back up to good condition. The floors need to be refinished, the copious amounts of wood needs to be cleaned and revitalized (the wooden lazy susans with the appetizers were greasy to the touch and the wood around the edge of the chairs was dirty), the upholstery on the booths needs to be replaced – in most of the booths it is torn and the stuffing is coming out, and the place just smells, well, old. The fireplace was nice, with its copper housing, the carpet helped keep the ambient sound level very low, so we could converse easily, but it too is well worn. It was a bit dark for older eyes to read the menu out in the open part of the dining area, after they dimmed the fixtures.
The food was very good, but not worth the prices. The crackers for the appetizers were somewhat stale, but a good variety. The cheddar cheese spread with port and the olive tapenade were both excellent and I was told the pate and spinach spreads were also very good. The shrimp were enormous and cocktail sauce very tasty. The spinach salad was somewhat limp with too much dressing and not tossed at the table as the menu suggests. Even though I asked for no onion on the salad, they included it anyway.
My wife and I had Chicken Rochambeau – very very good, but not worth $48 – and the sauce was excellent, as were the yellow squash, carrots, and sugar peas. Others had filets – perfectly cooked, wellington – excellent, and seafood au gratin – perfect.
The desserts were ok, nothing special. The coconut covered bananas were not fresh. After dinner coffee was very weak.
Service was exceptional; our server – Ray – was very attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. Water glasses and ice tea were kept full.
I cannot with a clear conscience recommend this restaurant to anyone. Not until they refurbish it and lower their prices to provide a better value. The good food doesn’t quite balance out the shabbiness of the interior.
My mother loved it for Valentine's weekend. I have found the service to be very good. I never ran out of coffee. If you know me, that means the service was attentive. I branched out and tried the Eggs Columbia, which was salmon in a pastry shell, topped with a couple of poached eggs. I didn't find the salmon to be top notch... But the key draw for most people I think is the traditional romantic fine dining atmosphere. Some places shouldn't change with the times, and this is one.
Management needs to quiet down staff. I've been going here for 4 years now for my Birthday and anniversary. The service and food always stood out so much. Our waiters were always so kind and food was always prompt. But things i notice have changed ALOT. We had a booth by the kitchen entrance and we were very surprised and FRUSTRATED at what we heard. We heard waiters or all of the staff talking loudly, cracking pretty nasty jokes, etc. One of the waiters started to argue quite loudly with one of the bussers right in front of our table!!! It was sort of embarrassing. And it happened again right when we were about to leave. Food and Service was very prompt and very good but just the arguing and the loud talking really made the night bad. At least our waiter was very kind and talkative. Hopefully for Christmas, i can post a better review.
