Insider Tips

The Extras

For a strenuous hike or biking trip, enter the park via a 250-foot climb up a steep and narrow path. It takes approximately 45 minutes on foot to get from the base to the top.

When to Go

Occasional snowfall makes for great snowshoe excursions in the winter. Trails can be muddy and icy in the spring, though.

Know Before You Go

Former Cosmopolitan Magazine owner John Brisben Walker built a castle here, but the home burned down in 1918 when it was struck by lightning. All that remains are the massive stone walls and fireplaces.
