The Scene:
The historic mining town of Crested Butte is nestled on the western slope of Colorado's Rockies, three miles from the ski resort. Winters promise piles of snow, smoke swirling from wood-burning stoves, and a laid-back crowd consisting of friendly locals, leather-skinned ski-bums and jet-set vacationers. The mountain base resort area is mostly filled with condos and upscale hotels.

The Slopes:
Skiers and boarders of all levels can enjoyable runs here. Although Mt. Crested Butte has a reputation for being challenging, nearly 60 percent of the mountain has intermediate cruisers and about a quarter of the runs are suitable for beginners. Accessed by 15 lifts, the park offers 1,125 acres of skiable terrain, a superpipe, two terrain parks (one just for kids) and a tubing hill.
