A few years ago I took a very nice
high-end VCR to this guy, asking him to diagnose and repair a problem. John was not able to diagnose the problem, and was unqualified to fix my VCR, but still charged a significant diagnostic fee. And he would not give back my equipment until I paid him IN CASH. For his diagnosis he simply wrote "unrepairable."
I later took the VCR to a reputable company in Parker, who diagnosed and fixed the problem. If you take a piece of equipment to someone, asking for a diagnosis and repair, they really ought to diagnose and be able to repair it before charging for a diagnosis.
