Thai Basil. I'm puzzled by these negative reviews. I have only dined at the location at 18th and Humboldt and don't have a single complaint. A $66 dollar tab? Are you sure? My husband and I each had a glass of wine ($3 each--happy hour special), an order (2) of spring rolls in a clear wrap, he ordered the Thai Basil Chicken (a huge portion beautifully presented on a platter) and I had Crispy Duck ('tho served in pieces, it appeared to be the entire duck---I couldn't eat all of it, there was so much). Our tab was not quite $30 plus tip. The restaurant is right across the street from a large hospital complex (St. Joe's/St. Luke's) and hospital employees poured in, many picking up large carry out orders. It is obviously a popular place. We have no complaints whatsoever. The review by Dip 1098 describes our experiences there. The review by Mikayla 123 is totally the opposite of what we know to be true.
Horrible! Never enter Thai Basil! It is down the hill!.
Thai Basil is a horrible! They say it is a thai restraunt but is it not! It is all American Chinese food! The Drunken Noodles are all covered and sunk with stinky nasty goo! The service was extremly terrible! They don' ask you if you want to drink anything or if you would like to sit where. All they do when you enter is say nothing so you get your own menu and take a seat. The food took about 3 minutes to get here. I asked for sprite and they gave it to me when we were about to pay and go home. Horrilbe I regret paying 66 dolars eating just 2 Drunken Noodles and 2 orders of Srping Rolls.
DON'T RECOMMENDED THIS RESTRAUNT TO ANYONE!
Very Good Pad Thai. This is a great date spot. The atmosphere is very soothing and cultural. The food is served uniquely. The service was nice and fast. The food was delicious. I have ordered from them for delivery at least once a week since my initial visit.
Pathetic Service. The food is great, but the service is embarassing. We walked in tonight at 9:55pm, and were informed upon seating that closing time is 10:30, so we better eat quick. At 10pm they started cleaning the floors, stacking chairs, while we were rushed our meal, extended no courtesy whatsoever by the staff, and not even asked if we wanted anything to drink. We were out the door by 10:20pm, so was the staff. Take out from here, don't eat in, you'll have a more enjoyable dining experience at your kitchen table.
AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING!. I have been going here for YEARS and love this place. The pad thai is amazing, any beef dish is out of this world!!! The price is right the people are amazing....I hvae no clue what people are talking about with these other reviews..........there is no place like it!!!!!!!!
Horrible!. This place is WAYYYYY too over rated! The price is reasonable but the food is horrible! More than 75% of the dishes are chinese NOT THAI!! The spring rolls were hard and I believe it's been a day or 2 old. If you want chinese food, then you should come here.
Not authentic Thai I was hoping for. I didn't find the food to be authentic Thai at all. Itwas more like American Chinese. I was disappointed.
Amazing food, but cant order regurarly because they have no on line menue. My family enjoys take out several nights a week from our area restaurants. Thai Basil is in our top 3 favorites because everything we have eaten from there is amazing. We have not been able to enjoy the restaurant for some time because we are unable to find an on line menue.
need menu. Thai Basil, you need to get a menu on line I can read about it all day but if I don't know what you offer how can I try your food
Great atmosphere, delicious Sesame Beef!.
As soon as I walked into Thai Basil, I was impressed. I enjoy a romantic atmosphere and Thai Basil has it! I love the big stuffed chairs, the "canopy bed" style booths, the twinkling candle-lit tables, and the arched ceiling. Eating at Thai Basil truly is a beautiful experience.
I also enjoyed the food. My favorite is the Sesame Beef. Some people have complained about the food being too sweet, but I thought it was wonderful! The vegetables were exceedingly fresh. In fact, when I visited the downtown location, I spied one of their workers preparing fresh snow peas from a big box. I'm not a big vegetable lover, but I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed the zucchini, broccoli, peppers, onions, cauliflower, mushrooms, and baby corn cobs that came with my Sesame Beef.
My only complaint is that it cost more to have fried rice rather than steamed rice with the entres. At the Park Meadows location, I was told that I would have to pay the full 7.95 price to have fried rice with my entre. At the downtown location, it was only 1.00 extra and well worth it. I'm suspicious that the waiter at the Park Meadows location may have been misinformed. Instead, we opted for the brown rice. It was good, but not nearly as flavorful as the fried rice.
I have to say, Thai Basil is now my favorite Asian restaurant and has made it onto my list of "places I can't resist!"
