Editorial Review for Opal – by Ephraim Mallery

In Short
Warm-colored walls, curtains and pillars invoke comfort and conversation throughout the tiered dining rooms. A sushi bar rests against the far wall on the lowest floor. Curtains made of steel beads veil the Orchid Lounge, filled with comfortable couches. New American cuisine with Asian flair offers intriguing combinations. Appetizers include calamari and mussels steeped in fresh basil. One well-known entree is the Kobe beef, smothered in balsamic soy sauce and served with grilled trumpet mushrooms and scallion potatoes.

in fact, don't even drink here. Even if it's close to home, the only place open, and you're desperate - I would still avoid. Is this even a real restaurant/bar, or just a front for some illicit racket in the back room? Ewww...

I have eaten at nearly every Denver restaurant advertised in Westword. OPal is by far the worst - and this is after giving it three tries since it is so close to my house. The wait-staff is inconsistent and the bartenders are rude. The food took forever to come out on all visits. There was nothing pleasant about Opal - except that I left. Speak with your dollar, there are much better places to go, especially for happy hour. Do not stand for horrible service or Opal will become the norm!

Pros: When we left.

Cons: Service, food, bartenders, and it's dirty.
