Editorial Review for Hanson's Grill and Tavern – by Wendy Wall

In Short
This lively, two-story building offers a semi-upscale dining room as well as a sports bar, a comfy upstairs lounge complete with board games, and a room solely for pool and foosball enthusiasts. The menu offers gourmet New American cuisine as well as standards like burgers and steaks. At 16 ounces, the porterhouse steak is done up right and cooked as requested. An oversized veal piccata dish will satisfy the hungry.

I like to go to hansens' when i'm in the area - great for a stop from the lightrail. The bartenders are friendly. I've never had a problem with poor service. The patio is awesome and the food is delicious. The only thing I haven't liked is the hummus and one time the french fries were cold. - but I just asked for fresh ones with no problems. Happy hour is good and they have a good selection of late night food. The upstairs has pool tables and a bar and bathrooms - good for a group. The place seems to attract a mid 20's- early 30's group and then an older upper middle class crowd - a little more upscale than your standard neighborhood bar.

Pros: affordable, good food

I'm from out of town. I had visited Hanson's while in Denver once before. The food was good but the service was slow. I chalked the slow service up to the large crowd. Today I returned to Hanson's early thinking I would beat the crowd. I was pleased when I arrived to see vacant tables, but was told by the hostess that there would be a 5 minute wait to let the wait staff catch up. After a 10-15 minute wait and no further contact, a couple walked in the door, didn't wait for the hostess as the sign requested, went to an empty table and were immediately seated by the hostess while my party and I were still standing at the door. Such service is not only poor it is impolite. I can only conclude that if you are not a regular recognized by the hostess you will not be treated well. I left without being seated and shall not return.

Cons: Very poor service.
