If I could give less than one star I would.
Where to start? The menu was TINY, the waitress couldn't be bothered to talk to us about what was available.. so, we chose what sounded like the best of a bunch of bad choices.. wedge salad, calamari, and NY strip steak, medium rare.
I specifically told the waitress I dislike bleu cheese so please do not put it on my salad.. the sad wedge salad was served... with nothing but a strip of bacon on top and a metal side cup of thousand island dressing... okaaaay.... hmm...
The calamari was overcooked and dry...
The bread was stale and hard.. and served with margarine.. yuk!
When the steaks arrived... they were the cheapest, gristliest cuts of cheap meat I've ever had in a restaurant... my husband sent his back as it was inedible.. and the second one he received was just as bad.
Amazingly... even though I had specifically told the waitress that I don't eat bleu cheese, the runny potatoes that were served with the steaks were FULL of bleu cheese... ugh.. I couldn't eat any of it.... horrible... how can steak and potatoes be mangled so badly?
This owner/"chef" should be ashamed...
When we complained to the waitress who claimed to be the manager, she argued with us.. HUGE no-no as far as I'm concerned. There is no way that I will waste another dime or another evening in this poor excuse for a restaurant.
Don't waste your time.. My mom and I went intpo Mel's twice hoping for some good food. It was a huge disappointment each time. It took several minutes for anyone to notice us waiting for a table and then it was at least 10-15 minutes before anyone asked if we wanted water or drinks. Our food order was similarly delayed and then, when it came, there was nothing on the plate! Their crab sandwich was the worst of all four entrees we had (which is saying something because the other three were very disappointing). Imagine a huge slice of awful bread with 2 tablespoons of crab with no dressing, one small piece of romaine lettuce, and a huge hunk of red onion. Even the waiter seemed surprised at how small it was. All that for $13! The waiter never came back to see how we were and he looked incredibly put out when we asked him for more water. Don't bother coming here; if you're int he neighborhood, Panera would be MUCH better at a fraction of the cost.
