What People Are Saying About Jr's Bar & Grill

In Short – Don't be fooled by the name: This boisterous bar doesn't serve any grilled items. In fact, there's no food served at all. Instead, visitors find a lively gay scene with nightly drink specials and different activities every evening. Events range from raucous "twisted" bingo called by transvestites on Wednesdays and Broadway musical sing-alongs on Mondays to karaoke on Tuesdays and Sundays. There's also a pool table and outdoor patio space for mingling on warm nights. –
JR's serves water - it's official
by dweber5
I've been hearing these rumors for awhile and found out for myself last night. We went there for New Years to bring in the new one there. Six vodka drinks later, nuthin. Not even a buzz, and I don't really drink. Normally if I go out and get a big draught beer it's gets me a bit buzzy. I had vodka sours and watched them put the vodka in the drink... a lot of vodka from watching them pour. Hmmmm, tasted like sweet & sour only. My friends from out of town had gin & tonics. Sure as hell didn't taste like gin. I wasn't even the first one that noticed. My friends that had never been there before asked if they were watering down the drinks. My other friend had a vodka martini, which he said tasted only like olive juice. After a couple rounds and wasted money, we said screw it and left. As we were leaving we ran into someone we know that said one of their friends mentioned that their drinks seemed to be water all night. So we went downtown to another bar and two of my friends had a gin and tonic there and knew we were getting screwed at JR's. This seems just recent too. I used to go there and get trashed on less than what we had drank there last night. Not sure what their deal is.
I'm sorry guys & gals, you can flame me if you want but when you've spent a few $100 on drinks and aren't even buzzed yet you should maybe think about what you're drinking.
- Pros: It's a nice little bar with a good environment
- Cons: serves water instead of drinks, not really a good place to meet people (too many cliques)
Giant G@y Bar Too Big For It's Own Good
by Sejanus
Really, not a terrible bar, but lacks the feeling and intimacy that make g@y bars pleasant diversions. The bar is usually packed to the gills, is far too crowded to move, and far too loud to talk. The clientele is diverse, not just g@ys, though unfortunately members of both persuasions are often insufferable party-queens. The drinks are good for the price, though the overwhelmed servers will take a while to get to you. Dope and love are abundant, which may or may not be a good thing depending on your tastes.
Name a night that is boring here
by elway35
This is a great local gay bar, very relaxed and all types of people go there. I usually take my straight coworkers as well! Awesome drink prices and their drinks are incredibly strong. Thursday night is the big night (50 cent beers, and 1/2 price drinks) but is does get very crowded. Check our karaoke nights also.
- Pros: Cute servers that make some amazing shots, very inexpensive, good variety
- Cons: parking sometimes an issue
