In Short – Outfitted in dark wood, plush greenery, deep purple hues, and a glass bar with a cork underlay, this romantic neighborhood nook in Washington Park turns out a wonderland of wines. They're served by the glass to a steady stream of oenophiles who gather to sip, swirl and swallow the latest vintages. A small chalkboard menu of pates, artisan cheese plates and Brie with roasted garlic complements the wine roster.
Lovely restaurant with romantic ambience

My husband and I had a nice, romantic evening at the Village Cork. The wines and pate and cheese dishes were delicious. The music is great, classic jazz vocal tunes. Interior decoration is very romantic. Great place for leaning back, relaxing. The server was courteous and helpful. We will be back.
- Pros: Romantic, relaxing, delicious food and wine
- Cons: None
Great Light Rail Destination- Good Wine, Great People on Any Night
by bambaji at Citysearch
Just one block west of the new Louisiana-Pearl light rail station, The Village Cork is one of my favorites. Admittedly I'm a regular, but i was hooked to this place almost right away by it's unique wine offerings, casual but dressy food selections, and it's great ambience. You can sip away the night in a fun conversation at the bar with the always colorful, friendly staff or tuck away in a cozy corner with soups made from scratch, imported cheeses or a decadent dessert. Once you go, you'll keep coming back. What better excuse to get out of that downtown hotel, apartment or loft, or plan your escape from the burbs to this "Old Pearl Street" neighborhood treat.
- Pros: Easy parking around the area or take the light rail
- Cons: None
Nice diversion from usual crowds

Wine bars are fun without a doubt - you get to pick wines that may not be offered by the glass in most restaurants, so it's less risky, and the atmosphere is almost worth the price per glass. I really enjoy this one. It's a dinky little place with lots of charm and very friendly owners who love to tell me about their wine without looking down their nose or making me wonder whether I'm dressed appropriately.
