El Primo Mexican Restaurant - 9277 Federal Blvd.
We heard about the live Mariachi bands and so that was one of the reasons we planned a family dinner there for my sister's birthday on July 7, 2008. It started off bad the moment we walked in the door. The place was empty, not to friendly or clean and nobody really cared that we were there. Once we sat down we orded chips and salsa and the waitress said they had been out of chips and salsa for about a month. Should of been a clue to get up and go. Our party of six decided to stay around and see if the Mariachi's would show up. We ordered food and that was the next disaster. The food was horrible, nobody was pleased. Me and my sister order Bean Tostada's that came in 3's at a price of $6. Just to find out it was extra for cheese and I mean extra! I thought cheese was part of a Tostada?? Once we got the bill which took the waitress some time to add up and change menu prices. The Bean Tostada's went from $6 to $9 and it turned out to be an expensive bill for poor service, poor food and a not so clean environment. The Mariachi's finally showed up and it was $10 a song... After being sooooo disappointed with the food and the service there was no way we were going to pay and additional $10 for one song. Oh, not to mention my sister's chair broke while she was sitting down having her awful dinner... All of a sudden everbody who worked in the restaurant was alert and running to our assistance. Good thing she was ok as we just couldent wait to get out of there. Hope they got their supply of chips and salsa this month because we no they up the prices on our bill at the last minute... I dont recommend this restaurant, its not clean, not friendly, food is horrible, and so is the service. I am almost sure the Health inspectors need to make a visit!
I cant even give this place 1 star but I had to inorder for my comment to post.
We decided to go on a Federal Boulevard mexican restaurant tour. First stop was El Primo. They have a mariachi band, pretty good. They don't come up to your table and annoy you, just play in the center of the restaurant, towards the bar. Food was ok, my partner's food was not good at all, mushy. My food was good, I had the carnitas tacos. I tried the green chili, very spicy and good, but didn't sit well with me later. Could be I'm getting older! I've been eating mexican food and green chili my whole life, so I'd say I'm more than experienced with it.
Worst part about this place --- we had the snottiest waitress. She acted like we were intruding. She hardly said a word. I wanted to ask questions about the menu but her attitude showed clearly that she wasn't going to answer anything. I asked for the side of green chili, she said, well, I don't know. Don't know? I said that I'd pay for it of course, she begrudgingly brought it out.
The food was ok, but so not worth trying again after the service we had. I guess the tour continues!!
