Bad gift-giving experience- pea in the pod massage.
I had a massage at the Woodhouse about a year ago and really enjoyed it.
When it was time to buy a gift for a pregnant friend, I decided to stretch my budget to get her a gift certificate for the pea-in-the-pod massage at the Woodhouse, thinking it would be nothing short of excellent and relaxing.
After my friend had the massage, she told me about her experience:
She had to ask for a clean pillow because the one they gave her had some yellow gunk on it.
They didn't have pregnancy beds with the hole in the middle! Her massage took place while she was laying on her sides- how is that comfortable? How is that going to help my very pregnant friend relax and get a good back rub?
I have never heard of a prenatal massage with no belly table, and neither had my friend. She had even gone to some other less expensive places throughout her pregnancy and ALWAYS had a belly table.
I called and spoke with the spa manager, who's attitude was pretty much "tough, it's the way we do it here." I won't be spending more money at the Woodhouse. I would think in this economy spas would be trying to keep their customers, but I guess the Woodhouse doesn't see it that way.
Very nice. Beautiful w/ great service. The only slight "issue" I would note is that parking can be scarce.
Beautiful Spa, Great Experience. A friend of mine recently bought me a gift certificate to the Woodhouse for my birthday. When I called the spa, the woman I spoke to was very knowledgeable and helped me pick the appropriate massage based on what I told her was happening with my body. When I arrived the day of my appointment, I was impressed from the beginning. Beautiful old home, relaxing atmosphere, and a staff that made me feel welcome. Before my massage began, my therapist reviewed my chart and took the time to talk with me about my body "issues". It was one of the best massages I've had. Amanda was very knowledgeable and had a confident and nurturing touch. I will be back but next time I'm bringing friends! A great birthday gift!
Lovely Pea in the Pod Massage.
I recently used a gift certificate for a Pea in the Pod maternity massage. I was expecting a special table or chair to be available, but it was just done on a regular massage table where the masseuse worked on one side of me at a time, while I lay on my sides with a body pillow. Obviously, it's not quite as relaxing as a regular massage, where you can be on your stomach, but overall it was very pleasant and relaxing. At the end, I was on my back for a few minutes, which might not be okay for all pregnant women. The masseuse took time to make sure I was comfortable throughout.
A small complaint: the gift certificate didn't note a time allowance for the massage. When I booked it and noted I had a gift certificate, the receptionist asked if it was for an hour, which I assumed was standard. However, when I checked out, it turned out the gift was made for 45-minutes (the standard time offered on the website, as I later learned). It wasn't a big deal to pay a little extra, but it seems like there should be a better line of communication between what a gift certificate says, what the website offers, and how the service is booked.
Good facial.
A lovely, relaxing space - beautiful building, great lounging areas.
I've had several wonderful facials at Woodhouse.
I recently was unhappy with attitude at the register - hopefully it was just a one time incident.
Wow, That's what I call a great experience. This place was unbelievable. These guys have obviously figured out how to make someone feel special and relaxed. For the entire day I felt like I was the only person that mattered. Each individual I delt with catered to my every whelm. My pedicure and manicure were done in a great setting. My techician was very skilled and made me feel like a queen. Don't miss the opportunity to get one of their body wraps. I'm telling all my friends..Actually, this would be a great place to go with them! Plus they have some great wines to sip. See you there!
Wonderful Massage and overall experience. I absolutely loved this small spa. We walked in and were whisked away from there. I thought the massage was one of my top five ever (I think her name was Kim) and overall the experience was lovely. The changing/dressing room, though small, was well equipped. Great shop too as they had an abundance of nice products.
Thank you so much for the wonderful review. I'm so glad you had a great experience w/ us and look forward to hopefully seeing you again soon. Tina
Worst nail service. I have enjoyed many massages at the Woodhouse. But, I have to say that everytime I have nail services performed, the experience is poor. The last two times I have visited, the nail tech burnt the tips of my fingers and toes with the nail file. When I brought it to her attention, she offered me a free drink and then poured nail polish remover on it. Which really burns! I mentioned it to the hostess checking me out and got 20% off my bill. I will return the favor and never return.
I apoligize if you had a negative experience w/ our nail department. I would appreciate an opportunity to talk w/ you. Please give us a call so that we might be able to make this up to you. Tina
Great atmosphere, service a little underwhelming. I think even the most disappointed customer on these critiques can attest to the fantastic atmosphere at Woodhouse. Situated in a charming yet elegant historic victorian that's also well-appointed, you can't help but have lofty expectations - especially when you sit down in one of their wingbacked chairs in front of the fireplace with a cup of tea. Unfortunately that's where my idealic spa visit ended. The swedish massage was enjoyable but pretty average. My bath experience was even more disappointing, as the water in the tub was scalding hot and I wasn't able to sit in the water without burning. To their credit, the staff tried to cool the water down for me as much as they could, but it never adjusted to a comfortable level of heat. So instead, I asked if I could just spend some time in their vischy shower, and they happily accommodated me. It was nice, but again, I had had my mind set on a different type of experience. The staff was friendly enough, the atmosphere - grand, but the services were just not at the level you'd expect with the prices they ask. In conclusion, I'm hoping it was just an off day for me, as I'd like to give them another chance.
Insulting Customer Service. Went to Woodhouse to enjoy half day of services with two friends, we had all booked the same package, but I was given a different massage. After therapist admitted to a miscommunication, the front desk had the gall to tell us that we had booked wrong (then why did they confirm TWICE, not sure). Anyway, they kept saying that they took full responsbility, when they were taking NONE AT ALL. I am so disappointed and insulted. I have never written a bad review, but the rudeness and anti-customer service was just too appalling not to share.
