Editorial Review for Bender's Tavern – by Dave Flomberg
In Short
This little sweaty venue has played host to some of Denver's most beloved acts, as well as the latest tours. With bands like Slim Cessna's Auto Club and the Railbenders and the blistering Reno Divorce, this is one venue that remembers what rock is all about. Local rock scenesters file in for the music and the daily bar specials, then stay for the food. Grilled grub includes burgers and buffalo chicken wraps.

hey was there saturday night for devil doll and 2 other bands. let me start by saying we got there 30 mins early - wasnt a good idea... they opened the doors to the music venue 45 mins late. the bar area was ok, bar staff were nice and chatty. beer was CHEAP CHEAP and real cold. restrooms were clean. thats where the 'nice' ended. after we got into the venue area, WOW, NO SETTING!!!! yea i mean it, everyone had to stand. the only place ppl could stand was on the dance floor which left no place to dance and rockabillies love to dance. THAT SUCKED!!! so, no place to sit, no place to dance AND worst of all was the noise... yea, i mean noise! i like my music loud!!! but what the sound guy did to those bands was just short of MURDER! he cranked up the sound system until one couldnt hear the bands, all one heard was noise. why the band ppl didnt string that fool up is beyond me??? shoot, i would have helped!!! recomendations: 1. make the staff open the venue on time! 2. buy some chairs - and maybe a few tables! 3. turn it down - tune it up. make it right for the size of the room!!! 4. STRING the sound guy up! will i go back??? DONT THINK SO!!! billyfrank
Pros: cheap beer - nice staff
Cons: the whole music scene

i tend to frequent the moodier, darker, grungier bars... so, i made the mistake of dropping into bender's. i'd say there were about 9-10 people inside when i walked into the bar side... so, plenty of seating at the bar. i was one of 3 sitting at the bar and waited on service... but, it never came... there were 2 bartenders and a manager/owner behind the bar taking shots and talking to the only girl in there. i know they saw me because i made eye contact many times. they just ignored me and kept flirting with the girl. i stood at the bar for about 10-15 minutes before one of the male bartender's (who seemed annoyed that i even sat at the bar) finally came up and asked me what i wanted. i had 2 beers over the course of an hour and wanted to ask the owner about the cool mural out front before i left. i grabbed his attention and started a friendly conversation about... well...... 'art'. within 2 minutes of what i thought was a casual conversation, he flicked the shades off of his face and whipped them to the bar in a rage.... his eyes were bloodshot red and he looked like he was going to jump over the bar and strangle me.....( i looked to the other bartenders in confusion but they weren't paying attention) .... the owner proceeded to rant and called me a pathetic bar fly... and pointed to the door. i've never been asked to leave any bar/club/ or library in my life... it was the oddest thing that has happened to me in years. i walked out without any questions asked... i'm just not the troublemaker type. in closing, all i would like to say is this: Bender's Tavern needs a sign out front that say 'Beware of Owner". and also, the topic of art is a very sensitive subject for the bi-polar or bi-something owner. you have been warned.
Pros: has potential
Cons: needs new professional management
